Hey all! First post (been lurking for months!). Back in the hobby after several years out with a ~7 month old Fluval Evo 13.5 and enjoying if so far. This is a great resource.
I'm wanting to upgrade my Evo's light, but keep the stock hood (for now). I'm not always home to turn the light off/on, which is not good. I read about the Nicrew dimmer, but figured I'd just do a complete upgrade, while I'm at it. I don't have a ATO so want to limit evaporation (see below, re: concern in adding a hot light).
I saw a YouTube video where 15" Fluval Marine 3.0 fits into the stock lid (if you remove one of the legs?), but read that it can run hot (and no ventilation on stock lid, obviously). Was the Marine 3.0 designed specifically to fit in that hood, as an upgrade?
I've also seen people use the AI (grow, not glow, correct?) blade (at 12"), which I guess has some sort of plastic housing that also helps it fit in the hood's slot.
I have seen and plan of defaulting to one of the programs laid out in these forums (TY!). But I've seen surprisingly few photos of how either looks in the stock hood, so if anyone wants to share, it would be greatly appreciated.
Tank is good, but nothing exotic: Nero 3 wavemaker, custom eggcrate floss/carbon/biomedia filter chambers; cycled and all parameters have been good/stable; 2 happy purple firefish and a cleaner shrimp; basic hardy corals: softies, and a birdsnest and hammer. I'm looking to keep it easy/simple (again, for now).
Thanks in advance!!
