Will be adding my rock and salt water to my tank this weekend, and a fish a little later, is there a need for a light with just rock and fish, thanks.

You don't need light for the rock, but I would have some sort of light on a simple timer for the fish. Fish don't need fancy lighting, but they require daylight cycles (day/night) for their health and well being. I currently have just cheap standard lights with gooseneck mounts over my (currently) FOWLR tank. I will be getting new lights and adding corals in the coming months, but for now the cheap lights do the job for the fish.
