I think a snake is much worse. Snakes inject venom, lions and foxes just have defensive painful venom.
I got bitten by the same snake, took a long time to stop bleedin’. My rat snake was non venomous, unless you are a rat or mouse, when definitions are pointless :)

Once the swelling went down I wasn't too worried. It was like a bad bee sting. If it got worse I would have done something differently.
Honestly you did exactly what we would have done if you went to the ER. Unless you were having anaphylaxis. Then you may get epi or steroids.

The benadryl will help and make it less sore tomorrow

I'm not really sore right now. The punctures are still sensitive and my knuckle is still a bit tender, but I'm sure I'll be fine.

Thanks for the verification. I wonder if ER staff in New England would understand what I was talking about . A fish stabbed you with venomous spines???

I was doing some maintenance on my QT tank and my antenata lion was right up at the top begging for food. I'm still not sure what happened, but I must have put my hand over him and he jumped out of the water!!

I looked down and he was on the floor on his belly with his spikes straight up in defense mode. I used 2 nets to scoop him up and put him back in. He's fine and he ate tonight.

Now to me, he got me in 4 spots. I was prepared for this so I ran to the sink and put my hand under the hottest water I could stand for a couple of minutes, it hurt like hell. Then I cleaned it with peroxide and put triple antibiotic on it.

It was throbbing pretty good for a while and after an hour my knuckle started swelling. I put ice on it, but now I feel fine. I have a deeper respect for lions now

Mine managed to nail my arm after he died!
My heater failed and I lost 2, each about the size of a kids soccer ball.
I netted the one out and when I got the second one his body weight rolled in the net and the spikes basically just walked up my arm, 6 or 7 punctures. Arm balloned up, called the poison hotline, soaked in hot dish soap water.
Did the trick, I was more ticked than in pain. He got the final word.
Fantastic fish. :)
