Dude first off..I'm sorry for all that you have been through. I really feel horrible but from your catastrophe take some reassurance that you taught some of us some valuable triage skills. First, I will for one pick up some dedicated ratchet straps and put those in my fish cabinet next to the tank for such an emergency.

I look forward to seeing your next tank build. Hopefully it gets easier.

Thank you, I’m glad it will benefit people. The Ratchet straps saved everything.

Well that was a bust. I ended up not buying the 400 gallon. In the ad it said that it only needed to be sanded and buffed, but when I arrived to pick it up, the seams were shot, eurobrace was cracked in every corner, And there was a huge chunk of acrylic broken off the corner, like somebody dropped it. The owner did repair it, but it wasn’t very pretty. I decided to pass.

I really want to go with acrylic after what happened with my glass tank, but now I’m just contemplating on buying a brand new glass tank and be done with it.

So you can run into acrylic seams failure as well. You did the right thing, if it doesn't feel right just walk.

Thank you. That’s exactly what I was thinking. After just going through a seam failure, it wasn’t worth it to me. If it really only needed to be sanded and buffed, I would have no problem taking that on as a little project, but the damage was more than I would like to even risk.

At this point, everything was running great. I had all my coral and fish inside the display, and it was smooth sailing. I had finally set up that exact system I wanted, and it felt amazing.
That clam is amazing.. nice work bro.:)

So after a lot of thought and debate, I think I'm just going to get my 220 resealed. I was considering purchasing a brand new tank so I don't have to deal with any issues, but I plan on buying a new house in the next couple years and don't feel it would be a wise decision to spend a high amount of money on a new tank when I am going to be building a custom one once I buy a new house.

Not having a display is killing me! Lol

Everything is on fire right now, and growing amazingly. Now if I could just get my display back up, I'll be happy. Once the display is back up, I'm probably going to break down my frag system and just sells small amounts of Coral right out of the display.

What a roller coaste. Amazing thread and build. I've been through moves, rushed moves and a seam failure at 2 am when I was traveling so totally feel what u went through. Amazing collection of corals and its really good that u managed to keep them after the crazy sequence of events.

I do have a little bit of sad news. I am going to be breaking down my frag system, and dedicating all of my time to setting up and running a new display. it was a sad day, but I just sold almost half of my coral a few days ago, so my frog system is now looking pretty sad. I'm going to keep frogs of pretty much everything, but once my big colonies are gone, I'm going to be breaking it completely down. I will still keep the holding tank setup, but I'm not going to aquaculture coral any longer. Maybe one day, but right now I'm just too busy with life and my daughter.

On the bright side, I'm thinking about going over 300 gallons now for my new display. since I sold most of my Coral, I have the funds to purchase something large, but not sure if I want to spend that much money right now or not. Time will tell here shortly

With all of these tank builds in this single thread, should I start a new thread for my new tank? LOL

I have been somewhat MIA, except for making posts selling the equipment from downsizing. I no longer have the frag system, and am now going to be orientated around a fish only display with minimal coral.

Anyways, I'm glad to have a display set back up after the seam failure on my previous tank, and look forward to adding fish I would not have been able to keep in my previous mixed reef.

I still have a couple odds and ends I need to finish, but for the most part it's completed. I took this picture right after hanging the light, and still need to cut back the wire that's hanging.

Update on page 7. I have quite the story if you read through the entire thread.

Hi everybody ! After about 8 years of being in the hobby, I figured it’s about time I create a build thread documenting the life of my system so I have something to look back on. I am always reading everybody else’s build threads, but have not made one of my own. I will mainly use this to document pictures of my corals and fish, along with Sharing my experiences along the way. So here’s a little about my system.

I have had the system for a long time, but recently moved to a new house, 4 months ago and had to move all of this equipment with me. Oh boy was that a lot of work haha. It is set up pretty much like how it was at my old house, with all of the plumbing going through the walls and having the sump/frag tank in the garage. It is/will be a SPS dominate mixed reef.

Current setup, due to change as I upgrade or replace anything:

180g display
60g display refugium/frag tank (garage)
50g sump (garage)
2016 Apex (still hooking up)
60” ATI T5 over the 180
48” no name t5 over refugium/frag tank
(2) MP40qdw
(3) MP10qdw
Water making station
Reeflo gold return pump
Reef Octopus skimmer
Finnex 800w heater
Ecoplus 1 1/2hp chiller
Jbj ATO
Precision Marine calcium reactor
Nextreef carbon reactor
16g quarantine setup

I was able to find some of the pictures in my phone from when we first moved into our new house, so I hope you enjoy the transition to where it is at now.

Here she is in her final resting position. Lots of Cleaning to come...

Here is a quick photo I snapped after plumbing everything to the main display. In this photo I was filling the system up with tapwater and lots and lots of vinegar for the deep cleaning.
7C3E2A80-C667-4D0A-9E1E-B81D5D2CCA24.jpeg

So after I did a deep clean on everything, I was able to fill it with salt water and hook the chiller up. As you can see, this chiller is a beast! My next challenge was deciding how to mount my chiller so I could hook up my Frag tank.

Well luckily I have friends in the HVAC industry, and was able to score this mini split wall bracket for $40 using my friends company discount. Next was the frag tank!

And here is the refugium/frag tank ! This was before I switched to the t5 over the refugium/frag tank. This is when I was using a 175w MH.

And here is a FTS that I took just a couple days ago!

If anyone has any questions, let me know! I’m always more than willing to answer whatever I can. Stay tuned for a bunch of macro pictures !!!!
