Most people will tell you to look at another form of filtration here, so I am not sure if you will get the best response. Oase I know is pretty strong in freshwater and I like the idea of having the heater built in. Fluval FX is standard and can't go wrong. I would definitely get one which lets you quick disconnect the hoses from the cannister and having some prefilters that are easily removed makes maintenance much easier.

edit: I thought I could keep up with cannister maintenance when I did my first build. Sumps are much easier to deal with and I wish i just did that from the outright, but I know thats not everyone's situation

I kept a softie tank for w0 years. Had no nitrates nor ammonia. Always used Eheim with their bio balls. Very reliable. German quality maybe.
