I think I will transfer over immediately. From what I've been reading and everything, I shouldn't have much of an issue doing it that way. Should just be able to transfer all my rock over, and that will continue to be good enough for my current bio load. I will probably add some more rock, since this one is bigger than the 65-gallon.

Going to get all new sand and rinse it very well, then I'll fill the tank with new water. I'll use some old water from the tank also, not sure how much. Going to scrub and clean all my rocks really well also and rinse them in the old tank water. Hopefully that will help with the GHA that is in there from spreading to much to the new tank. I'm hoping to transfer it all this week but may end up being this weekend depending on what all I get done.
I'd consider using as much of the water as possible just to help with stability.

Not a bad idea to scrub the rocks, but you'll lose all the coralline algae too. It dies quickly when out of water. You might have to buy more bottles to seed the tank again.

What a score! Super exciting. Love the color y'all chose for the stain, too! Following along for the transfer process! Best of luck!!

Just for you @Kasrift made me think about it to much, so I put a support in the rear middle also lol. Here's a few more pictures with the sump under waiting to be plumbed.

Haha, the whole thing looks great. I can't wait until I upgrade. Going to give it another year and we will see where I'm at. I'll be jumping to a 125 or somewhere there about so I can do tangs. I've been staring at the Aquaforest ones on BRS that are new and just salivating.

Go for a 180+. Take it from a guy that's on a 125 - 3rd tank in two years, just saying.

Lol. Wife would love that. I don't have aspiration for some of the crazy expensive tangs or anything, really just want them to help with algae, so one yellow in a 125 should be fine. I really just want some interesting wrasses and something that schools.

I wanted at least a 90 so I could get at least a bristletooth timini tang lol. My LFS here always has them in stock as juveniles. They're about 1.5" long, so I'll try and get one when the tank is up. Had one before, but he didn't make it due to being bullied by our Royal Gamma.

I was looking at 125-150's also, but never found one close enough. I was almost ready to pull the trigger on a brand new acrylic one someplace but held off. The 90 fits perfect, and the 150 I think would have stuck out further than I would have liked. Eventually we may get a bigger one, but very happy for now!

My LFS, when I was there yesterday, I noticed had a Yellow Tang in a 50-gallon DT.... I was like huh. It seemed happy, but I wouldn't have thought it a good idea lol.

Trying to decide on lights for the new tank has me pulling my hair out lol. Right now, I'm debating on a pair of XR15 G5 Blues with Reef Brites and mounts attached for pretty good price. Then a 48" T5 Hybrid also, I could also get more AI 16hd's or 32's but worried about having the lenses burn out. Not hard to replace, just a hassle.

Anyway, here's some shots of the cabinet we're building to hang over the tank and hold the lights on the bottom. The door is going to be a Mahi piece I designed and carved on my CNC, then painted.

I've settled on XR15 G5 Blues that have been used for 5 months, also already have the 10-12" reefbrite add ons on each one. Now to find a 48" T5 Hybrid. Found a 36" local but would really like to get a 48". Will be painting and staining the cabinet tonight and in the morning. Should have some updated pictures tomorrow afternoon.

Heading out to get the new lights now. Gotta figure out how I'm going to do the plumbing on the Sump also. Will be the first time I'm using a sump as well. I have to get a few things for it, but not sure what all yet. More research tomorrow haha.

48 would be ideal, but to be honest having some lower light sides of the tank let's you get some cooler low light corals. Some bigger meat corals want lower light, so as long as you have the aquascape for the acros center you could be good. You could also get 48s and just aquascape lower light caves in the rock work.

Yeah, that's my thinking also. Although, now that I got these new lights home.... I don't know if they'll fit in a T5 Hybrid with the Reefbrites. I think if I take the endcaps off, I can spread the T5's further apart and make them fit though.

Also, ended up with a pretty decent score again. Two G5 XR15 Blues both with Mounts and Reefbrites, they also had an MP40 I was able to score. Not too bad for all of it about $550. The MP40qd is pretty new and hardly looks used also. The MP40's that came with the tank are definitely older, and need two wetsides and possibly even 2 dry sides. But their controllers work lol. May try to offload them for a dirt cheap price.

Hoping to be able to hit around 400ish par for our SPS's. Here's a picture of tonights steal!

Either you should be a host on American Pickers or people in your area aren't on R2R and are just dropping like flies from the hobby. =)

I think that's what it is, luckily for me anyway. I usually just watch and watch when I start looking for things. I try and find the best deals I can. Sometimes I'll buy new instead of used, just depends on what it is. Things like lights, and stuff are easier for me to justify getting used.

Just an update on the build. Modified our eshopps sump I got with the tank. I cut the filter sock holders out, to make room for a reefmat 500 I'm going to run. Question. If that's hanging on the far left, and I have a big chamber before the return section. Can I run my seachem matrix in the bottom of that chamber then also some micro algae to run it as a refugium? Or would I need to put a baffle in after the reefmat, and make the next chamber the refugium?

Finished the top cabinet for the tank also, it will be hanging above the tank, not sitting on it. The bottom of the cabinet will be about 12" from the top of the tank. The lights will be mounted to the bottom, where it's painted white. And should hopefully still be hidden from view with the lower border. Going to order all the plumbing and reefmat for the sump tonight, hopefully get this going by this coming weekend to do the transfer!

Pictures!
