On a couple of my tanks I'd like to add some supplemental blue or violet lighting with meaningful PAR. I need long, skinny lights to fit in the existing space.

So the Orphek bars are appealing but not at the price. Low-powered blue LED strips are very cheap (<$15). These are what I use for moonlight, but they dont provide meaningful PAR. And high-powered LEDs (black boxes) are also cheap (I trust there is no need to link what I'm talking about here :) )

I am looking for either
1. A low priced (≤$50) blue or violet LED bar with 3W diodes or
2. A DIY solution. Has anyone made a DIY LED strip like this?

Any ideas? Thanks!

Check out Steve’s LEDs. But honesty the price of the ORs is hard to beat.
Thanks, looks like all DIY parts right? Or do they have a bar light I'm missing?

The Orphek is $180, I could reconfigure the space and use black boxes and still beat that price by 50% :)

I figure someone must be making a low-cost version of a bar light, but my searches arent turning up anything.
