Decided that I need to make room in my display for higher end corals and start fragging to get back some real estate.

I picked up a 50 gal lowboy today that I plan to plumb in line to my system.

I'm unsure as to lighting for the frag tank especially considering its shallow 10" depth.

I'm running xr30 G5's on the display.

Would a pair or or trio of Ai prime16 hd reef be sufficient, or should I consider some reefled90 or some g4's?

Mainly SPS, some LPS.

Trying to keep costs manageable :)

Went with three AI prime16 hd reef... will see how they look once thr tank is wet:)

Using BRS spectrum, BRS recommends a height of 10", right now they are at 14".

Welcome to.the lowboy club lol I have 2 myself. Cool little frag tanks. I run t5s on one and when I set up the other it'll be leds either 2 ocean revives or 2 xr15s Gen 3 if I can get the other working again. I like leds more than t5s but don't hate t5s. Growth has been sufficient with both. Personally will probably switch all my other frag tanks to radion to keep it all the same. Maybe keep 1 t5 set up to kinda compare.

Drilled the tank today and installed a medium eshopps overflow box.

I'm considering not using the outer box and simply putting a durso standpipe behind it.

Does anyone see any reason not to do this?

Other than losing the emergency drain, I don't think it would be a problem... if you're cool with the risks involved.

Thanks @Hooz,

You are indeed correct. I failed to mention that I drilled an additional hole into the back of the tank to install an emergency drain.

As of 1 hour ago, the frag tank is up and running.

Been a busy week between work and prepping this build.

- I painted the back, sides, and bottom black.

- I built and painted a stand over my water change station.

- I plumbed the frag tank into my system with a durso standpipe and an emergency drain.

So here she is, along with a pic of my display tonight.

Great set up on the fish room and nice score on the low boy. I tried to go that route, but was unable to get one so I ended up having a tank built for my frag set up.
