If anyone has been waiting to build a waterfall or upflow scrubber, we

will soon be posting plans of the new floating surface scrubber. It

floats at the top and does not need a waterfall, and it does not shine

through the glass.

Looking forward to the announcement! Are you getting better nutrient consumption results than your waterfall or upflow type?

SantaMonica, thanks for sharing but this is a little confusing... what is the plastic box? Do you have more detail elsewhere?

Would it not be easier to get your nutrients under control? Overfeeding phosphates etc. are main causes of algae growth. They can be kept in check with proper care.

This is like saying why use a skimmer or biopellets or gfo. Algae scrubbers are just another form of filtration a very powerfull form at that when used properly.

Prevention: never let it begin! If it is too late then an algae turf scrubber would be ideal to transfer algae away from your display tank.

So is your harvesting by hand giving you nutrient spikes until more hair algae grows in the scrubber?

No, because our reef pool has 4 of these units on it. But even if only one unit, the algae sticks so well to the strings that 1/3 of the grwoth stays anyway.
