I received a new batch of fish 3/24 and they all went directly into qt. I run a redsea 32 gal aio tank for my qt. In the tank I have a filter pad, skimmer, and power heads.

Water quality should not be any issues with zero tds, I have an 8 stage ro/Di system and run aqua forest salt. I do water changes every 3-4 days to remove any contaminates.

Upon receipt of these fish none looked to have anything on them or sick. After a day on being in qt the male lyretail looked to have a gash on it head. After a couple days it was bigger and then today it looks really big and wide open. I fresh water dipped the fish and nothing fell off of it.

At first thought maybe lympho but it really does not look like it. I’m at a loss and looking for some help in identifying what it is and possible treatment. Anyone who could help please give me some suggestions.

attached are a few pics in progression of the disease. First batch of pics are just iPhone and best I could do. Last batch I caught him and used the Nikon with macro lens to get best shots I could.

Thank you in advanced for any help!!

That looks pretty raw and exposed. A bath in methylene blue will help as an initial treatment. Then the next day, I'd give it a bath for 60-90 minutes in Ruby Reef Rally (acriflavine). If the area grows or show redness or white filmy spreads, treating with antibiotics is the next step.

Good move!

Great product to have on hand in your fish med kit. Can use to treat fish with ammonia burns to their gills after shipment, cuts, injury. It actually helps the fish to be able to absorb oxygen in it tissues, especially the gills membrane.

Ok so I completed the bath and when I reintroduced the fish to qt the wound looked smaller as if it shrunk up a bit. Not sure what that means or if it will stay that way but ill continue to do daily or bi daily baths.

Uronema usually presents as "open" sores that looks like the flesh is rotting. Those red marks look more like cuts that may have become infected. The fins are looking a little tattered too. Bacterial infections on these fish need to be address as soon as possible as they can go sideways really fast. NFG powder works the fastest; the "Trifecta" of Kanaplex + metro + Furan2 covers a tremendous spectrum of bacterial infections.

So I was on shift yesterday and was unable to give this guy a bath so this morning when I got home I did. I did a double dose for recommended 30 min. Here are a few more pics as of this morning during the dip. Not sure if the darker flesh means healing or getting worse. Almost seems as though when in the dip the opening shrinks up.
