Hello all,

Recently picked up a used Magus 5 skimmer. Came with a bubble cone mod and sick pump adapter.
Not really sure if it's ever been used as it's practically brand new out of box.
Having issues setting it up. Not getting the vortex of bubbles I see in videos.
Not sure how to set up bubble cone mod as well.
Not sure what's going on but I need to get it right.

This is my introduction as well.
Head first always

First off, hello and welcome to Reef2reef. I use the bubble magus curve 5 but I don’t have those mods you have in place. One thing to note with this skimmer is it defiantly has an enormous break in period. The vortech bubbles will come in time, are you experiancing an influx of bubbles which are consuming the cone chamber of the skimmer? If so I would reccomend regulating the amount of air drawn from the skimmer.

Hi thanks for the reply...

I'm attaching a picture of the bubble cone mod that I removed and put the original drilled plate back in. From there it should be factory out of the box. It's running original motor etc.
I should point out that this is a new table build. No saltwater, no nothing just trying to get everything dialed in before hand.
Live rock is on its way and I need to get it figured out real quick.
Anything you can help with here is greatly appreciated.

Been cycling ro water to date fine tuning working out the tweaks.
Everything is cycling nice just need to get skimmer figured out before I put anything in it...

It won’t bubble in freshwater
10 4 I'll try and post better pix. It's probably messing with me but I've ran smaller skimmers that come out of the box full of micro bubbles.
This skimmer right now isn't producing any micro bubbles. Honestly I've seen airstones produce better bubbles.

Yea there is your problem. You essentially trying to use a internal application pump as external pump and expecting it to work. Skimmers only work in saltwater, that is why you arent seeing the vortech of bubbles

I’m sure it works fine, if the pump works, it works, simple and great design. But it needs to be in 1.025-1.027 salinity water to function properly.

Right on. Only ran smaller to nano reef systems to date. All plug and play.
Not sure if I ever ran a skimmer in freshwater before but this one is all diy and I'm just getting back into reef tanking things again.
In the interim im in the middle of a pretty extensive Diy build here.
I'll post some pix up- I would greatly appreciate the feedback and comments.
