I just 3d printed a knockoff version of the VCA Salinity Probe Stability kits. I'm sure it isn't as nice as the one they sale, but for the 20 cents it cost me in plastic I'm sure it will be good enough. I still haven't installed it yet though.

Almost all of my diy projects are to save money. It allows me to justify spending more on coral and fish.
Would you mind sharing the stl?

Not at all, just go back to post #91 I have a link there. Also please keep in mind the person who posted it on thingiverse (not my design) said it was a work in progress. I have not installed it yet so I can't attest to how well it works if at all.

I grow my own phyto (Nanochloropsis and Tetraselmis) to boost pod population in my system and refugium. Pictures show the cultivation area and the dosing system (with wrap-around LED lights to keep the dosing bottle phyto going strong). Second image also show the Jebao dosing pump.

"Old-school" water sensors for high-level in sump, low-level in sump, water on floor and auto top-off. Using $2 float switches on Ebay or my own swing design with a two stage ATO (slow drip through Ca reactor) or faster stream if that does not keep up.

Alarms sound a horn and can call my phone to alert me (using a Cabin minder box I bought on Amazon).

DYI Skimmer using an Iwaki pump and DIY venturi. A DIY CO2/media reactor and a DIY Kalk reactor - - through which my ATO water flows.

Been looking for something like that. My 350g is simply too deep to reach anything.
Super simple. Bottle brush from Target superglued to a fiberglass property marker for snowy months up here in Minnesota. Just cut to size! Just don’t dip the drill in the water like I did and definitely don’t use a plug in drill!!!

Hmmm what did i do that others pay for? Built a 590 gallon acrylic tank, welded a stand, took out a wall and moved plumbing to build in wall tank, built custom facade and access doors, created waterproof fish room with stand by generator power. Money spent... about 7 grand. Money saved? Likely close to 15 grand.

I love to build and remodel. I drew up the plans and built my stand and canopy and did all the plumbing as well. Iincorporated the tank into my bar build this was a fun project and

huge challenge for my first reef tank. Ilearned alot on this project. I would appreciate any feed back.

You did an amazing job! [hears knocking] Wh-wh-what was that? Just kidding, bro. It's me, a complete stranger from R2R knocking at your door. I just happened to be circling your neighborhood when I saw your lights turn on. It isn't weird at all that I brought snacks, chilled glasses, and freshly cut frags, is it? Is the bar open? Sweeeet...

Purchasing or building your own stand, that you can’t reach to wipe spills underneath is just unacceptable to me.

Been making my own aquarium stands since 9th grade shop class. I will build anything else I can. I have built lights, sumps and even a ATS. I recently downsized and my current tank is a 60 cube. I built the stand, the controller board, the light holder, the screen top and even the feeding port.
That is some good looking wood craftsmanship on that stand

I used a small swatch of tank-topper netting and made a small tube out of it. I used fishing line to zig-zag through the holes at the bottom to hold a small frag plug to the bottom and then zig-zagged some fishing line across the top to make an opening that I can place a small chunk of DIY frozen fish food into and then pull the string to close off the top and suspend it in the water. The result is: I made my Copper Band Butterfly the most liked fish in the tank (and fat too). Everyone eat when he eats. Have a look.

I ended up building the stand and had a friend fabricate the metal frame to hold the canopy. I couldn’t find anyone to build a furniture grade stand

You did an incredibly job, very nice!
Thanks, it came out good enough that my wife wants me to make her new kitchen cabinets. So I tried out making one for the garage. This one had doors and drawers on both sides And one of the ends will be against the wall. It looks like I will making kitchen cabinets now.

I make tees and people buy them. I mostly do it because I enjoy it but I also enjoy using the extra cash for coral.

I've also built a few aquarium stands in the past to save money and because it's the only way to get exactly what you want.
