Let the uglies begin. Seeing diatoms all over the rock and in some places on the sand.

Still trying to get flow right. Trying to find a happy setting where the sand isn’t blown around like it is now. Will reset and readjust today or tomorrow.

Added a few of my old fish. Been testing ammonia and nitrites daily just to be safe. Both reading zero. Nitrates at 2ppm.

There is a white tinge to the water. I may be experiencing my first bacterial bloom ever. Been doing this since 2013 and never experienced one. Will monitor and deal with accordingly.

A few things to note:
Neptune WAVS - Man they are loud. Even at 10%, we can hear the constant hum. Reminds me of being on an aircraft carrier where there was always something humming. Even upstairs in my bedroom we can hear the hum of the pumps at 10%. Wife says it doesn’t bother. That’s important.
WAV Link Module - not gonna lie, highly disappointed in the build quality. My kids love going to the dollar store and picking up the cheap Chinese toy guns. They break super easy and end of the day, it was only a dollar. Ya the housing in the one link module feels just like this. Material that is to be expected from a dollar store you know.
Adaptive Reef Sign - speaking of cheap feeling quality, this is another one. Ya it’s cool and it definitely gets compliments. However, worth the price? Not sure. Doesn’t feel like it.

Speaking of adaptive reef , what do you all think of the two tone I went with? We like it. Haven’t seen one online. Decided to think outside the box a little.

Here’s FTS using two different lenses and then no lens. Tell me which you guys like more.

Good info there! I’m starting with gyres but was considering WAV’s if I need more flow. Sound level is super important to me though.

I’ve got two gyre xf350 and the 2 WAVS. I sold my two MP40s. I will say that the WAV are the loudest I’ve ever used. At 10% they are louder than the gyres at 80%. Louder than MP40s at 80%. And it’s not a clunky loud either. Just a hum. Makes it sound like you’re in an engine room somewhere (or CVN 72). I’ve had those mentioned above, jebao, tunze, sicce voyagers, and the cheapest models on BRS (I’m blanking on the name), and these WAVS are easily the noisiest. I think if we lined them all up and asked 10 people to find the loudest one, 10 out of 10 would all choose the WAVS as the loudest.

If these don’t work out I’m going to try the Nero pumps. The vortechs were a bit noisy as well. Usually fine but with time, they would unalign and start sounding clunky. Like rattling noises. We shall see.

Tough call on the photos. IMO 1 & 3 look very similar. I *think* I'm partial to the 20k lens, but only slightly. All 3 are good.

Best way of dealing with bacterial bloom? Leave it alone or purchase a UV? Didn't initialy purchase a UV because the model we looked at was too large to fit in my cabinet. Figured down the road I would find a way to plumb to a UV inside the garage and back.

I am not 100% sure this is a bacterial bloom as I have never had one before. Nitrates are at 2ppm and phosphates are .02 ppm. Don't think its a nutrients issues.

On another note, I'm intrigued by the fact that my red sea coral pro salt is registering at 8.2 dkH, 480 ca, and 1490 mg. Calcium and magnesium are high as expected but the alkalinity is far lower than I expected.

I have 3 tanks with no sumps currently although I’m setting up an XXL 750. In my experience bacterial blooms are transient and will resolve on their own. A skimmer would probably help, but even without that all of my bacterial blooms have resolved on their own. I definitely wouldn’t rush out to buy UV if that’s the only reason for it.

Turns out my LFS rents out a 40 W Pentair UV sterilizer at $50 a week. Went out and rented out. Holy moly this thing is massive. Like seriously this thing is huge. Anyhow, I've had it up and running since Saturday night. Can't actually say that I've noticed an improvement or not but I will say the color hasn't gotten worse. We will call that a plus. We'll see what it looks like when I get home from work.

Trident continues running and logging data. If you're curious as to why I put my trident online already its because I purchased a years supply of reagents, plus what comes in the box. I figured I would set it up and let it runs its course instead of risking some of the regents going stale on the shelf.

I did purchase a tester pack of frags from WWC on ebay. Shipment arrived a day late but frags were all still looking happy with PE in their bags. Can't complain. Received them about a week ago. Also purchased a $40 derasa clam. Believe it or not, my tank's alkalinity is dropping .4dkh per night. Wondering if these frags and clam immediately starting uptaking nutrients.

Pics of coral to come.

For the above pictures, all but one of the coral arrived in good shape. The snow drop acro was showing some not so good looking spots. It appears to be getting better in certain areas and worse in others. WWC already said they would replace it. The hammer was not from them. Just wanted to show it off a little.

Also just got my BRS shipment in. Nice to have gotten this freebie. Score!

Set up my Refugium light and carbon reactor last night. Placed an order today with my good friend Josh from Pod Your Reef. Plenty of goodies incoming.

Bacterial bloom is gone. I’ve been running the UV for 5 days now. Worked like a charm.

Yes the WAV are loud and also last about 1 year
I know people that have had WAVs for several years. I hope they do. I just added 2. I just like the fact they plug into Apex. I have 3 RS ReefWavs and with the addition of the 2 Wavs Cyano cleared right up. Its amazing what extra flow does.

The tank is looking good Manny

How are things going with your flow? I finally have my tank filled and heated as of last night! I have one Icecap 4K gyre (4K GPH vs the 350’s 5K) but no controller (BTW, with buoyant water in the tank the magnet holds perfectly). I had planned to use my 4K and controller from another tank but I’m going to keep that tank as an obs tank and I need some kind of powerhead for it.

So I’m torn between buying another 4K with the Hydros Wave Engine LE that can control 2 pumps, or buying a second pump-only and the full Hydros Wave Engine that can control 4 gyre’s total in case I need to add 2 more. Do you think your 2x 350’s alone would be enough flow, or should I plan for more powerheads? I know you’re using WAV’s as well but my question is whether you feel like they’re definitely needed.

On the downside, the full Wave Engine is out of stock literally everywhere so I might have to cross my fingers while I cycle.
