It’s a smasher, came in on my KP rock. The son of a gun has taken out all my trochus snails.

Feed him to keep him happy and he won’t need to kill everything

Lol yes I do. Try to use long tweezers and directly feed him. After little time it’s kinda cool to watch him take food

Okay I’ll try that tonight, I think I have an idea on where his burrow is. I actually bought a water box clear 16 that’s been running as an invert/planted tank for 3 months lol might just let him take it over. I’ve tried a bottle trap a few times and zero luck. But the thing is huge

Is it really purple or the normal green? If purple then it is very pretty!

I don’t want any but this young peacock is a beauty. Small crabs, snails and raw shrimp would keep it content

I would say roughly 4 inches
Wow! Pretty big then. I think I have a little guy in my tank. I hear him but he’s yet to make an appearance. Good job catching yours! I hope you get the other one you might still have.

Edit: by the way, I think these guys are so cool so it’s awesome that you were able to give the one guy his own space. I hope to have a mantis tank someday soon too!

Update: I was able to pinpoint the rock the second mantis is in, after lights out he was popping away behind my structure, I turned my flash light on him only to see a flash as he scurried up into his hole. I then removed that rock and closely inspected it until I noticed what seemed to be a much smaller shrimp in the rock (or part of said shrimp) to confirm I put the tip of my tongs into the hole and sure he enough it moved back and popped at the tongs (or what sounded like a mantis pop) I relocated the rock into my mantis tank. Finally having a feeling of success I put my line conch from my sump back into the display! Now it’s been one hour and I hear non stop popping coming from the display, I have a 3rd or who knows how many more mantis

It seems like KPA has a lot of mantis shrimp. Did you buy it shipped in water?

All of these mantis discussions has me itching to buy some of their rock.

Yeah 50lbs in water, I’ve bought rock from them and gulf live rock. I would recommend KP a hundred times over. I have so many corals and decorator crabs, a huge father duster, tons of small feather dusters, etc. I did get a bobbit worm as well so if you do keep an eye out.

Pretty cool for sure! I had all of that lovely stuff in my last tank (8 years ago) and my rocks cooked for 8 years in a brute. No more of that stuff, but I miss seeing new life.

I don't want / need 50#'s since I still have another 40-50 sitting in the brute. Maybe I can find someone local to go in with me.
