Marineland Magniflow Canister Filter for reef tank

So I recently got a 40 gallon tank with a
Marineland Magniflow Canister Filter. And really want do a saltwater reef tank. I've heard all the stuff about nitrate factory. But if anyone would know how to setup and what I should put in the 4 cages would be great. I have live sand and live rock to help with the biological loads. I do have a
TUNZE COMLINE DOC PROTEIN SKIMMER 9004. If anyone could help would be great.

Just...don't use the filter? Or trade the filter for a tank that you can use for a sump?
