First of all there is no way that I would beat @Paul B, or even want to. If anybody represents this hobby Paul B. is a heavy weight contender. I think it would be amazing if he took the first trophy.
That being said... here is my entry, which I half heartedly cleaned my glass because of my prior statement.

I started with marine aquariums in 1989 or so. I have always had a freshwater tank since elementary, not counting the goldfish that I won at the school fair when I was six. Having a Marine aquarium coincided with getting NAUI certified. I was obsessed by the ocean and wanted to have a bit of it in my college apartment. I had MTS even back then with a total of nine tanks of various sizes. Back when it was real DIY because there was not many options available. Oh, the undergravel filter... But I remiss. My love for the ocean has brought me to today where I still have MTS, but it least it averages about four now, not including special projects like hatching grunion etc.

I present you with the Frankencube:

What got me into the hobby of Marine aquariums?

About 5 years ago my wife came home with a freshwater aquarium to setup with my oldest daughter. I had multiple aquariums as a kid and have always loved everything aquatic but up to that point had never thought I had time for a tank as an adult. Unsurprisingly that tank sent me down the rabbit hole of planted tanks which eventually led me to starting my first saltwater tank almost a year ago. Needless to say I've been absolutely hooked! Even though I have a smaller tank I absolutely love creating my own thriving ecosystem. I will talk for hours with anyone who will listen about fish, inverts, and corals and spend a lot of free time trying to learn to become a better aquarist. One of my favorite parts of the day is feeding the tank with my two daughters every evening.

In a single post in this thread, please include the following:
  • A photo of yourself and a photo of your reef tank (can be separate photos or the same photo, but separating them might allow for a better pic of your tank) see photos below
  • The name of your reef tank (or name it now!) Brian’s reef Tank
  • Your response to this month’s Mariner of the Month question: What got you into the hobby of Marine aquariums? My name is Brian Chandler. I’m a 100% permeant and Total Disabled Army Veteran with PTSD and multiple respiratory Disabilities.I was deployed to Afghanistan in June 2009-June 2010. I then was transferred to Hawaii where me and my wife lived. My wife was pregnant with our first child. I was then called to deploy again. I was deployed again for a little over a month (July 2011- Aug2011) until we had a house fire in Hawaii. I was then called back home to assist my wife. We did have a saltwater fish tank in the house that burnt down. I had 2 clown fish and a bubble tip anemone. I never was able to get another fish tank until now. I then was honorably medical discharged in June 2012. My wife and I moved back home (Indiana). I am currently seeking an alternative treatment for my PTSD. I’m looking into Aquarium Therapy (I’m not a fan of medication as therapy). So far Reefing as been a great outlet. It’s calming and keeps your mind busy with all the reminders going off, testing, water changes lol. It has been an amazing experience. My ultimate goal is to get a bigger system then my 15 Gallon.

UNS 30A (Dual) AIO Forever Evolving

My adventure started in reef keeping when I was at a friend's house at that time. I used to have freshwater but was fascinated by the small saltwater tank they had. They gave me a small 2 gallon tank to put a pistol shrimp in and a couple corals. After doing a bit of research and looking, I decided I wanted an upgrade. Next I knew I had a 90 gallon, an odd shaped 50 gallon and a 55. I learned the hard way and had many falls in the over 12 years at least I have been reef keeping. Jake Adams Eco Reef Zero and the simplicity followed by Maritza's Vase. This current tank has started to become one of my favorite reefs I have done and is teaching me as well.

Thread 'Prostar 90v2' https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/prostar-90v2.1041837/

Like a lot of us, I started with freshwater thanks to my father's love of fish when I was a kid. African and South American Cichlids mostly. After one fish went on a murder spree... I rehomed him, then started my first FOWLR saltwater tank after seeing a friend's tank. I'd have to say, originally, it was the bright colors of the fish that pulled me over. And the thought of having a mini lionfish lol. Then I saw a big fluffy hammer coral and that's all she wrote lol. That was about 10 or more years ago. I'm now on my third reef tank. My current build, Prostar 90v2 aka The Warden's Build, is definitely a testament to all I've learned and continue to learn here on R2R.
