Hey everyone,
This is my first tank and i figured if im gonna do this, you have to go big. I wanted to build this for my daughter who will be here in december and show her how amazing reefs are. Plus itll be a good night light as well as some entertainment and white noise for her. So i found a 75gallon tank and stand and than dove head first into all my different filter options. I really liked the idea of having a small ecosystem and filter with using a sump plus it will improve efficiency so i built mine using a 20 long and cut my own glass for the baffles. I also built my own overflow with some scraps to save a little bit of money but it looks like a frankenstein project but if it works it works;Happy My skimmer i found here on R2R which was the Reef octo xp1000SSS and for my return i have the Jebao3500. I am using a 2in drain pipe so hopefully nothing will block it up. Just received my first round of rocks and think that was the most painful financially due to them...well just being rocks;Playful. But who says your to old to play with rocks;Joyful i wanted to try and incorporate and use some rocks that look like coquina rock which is mainly found in FL where im from just for aesthetic purposes plus theyre super porous. Right now i have a small powerhead coming in for mixing salt and an ATO so one step at a time. If you come across this post. Thanks for reading ;Happy;Happy;Happy

Here is 4 months in to the saltwater tank adventure. I have about 20 blue leg crabs, 2 scarlet leg crabs, 1 fighting conch, a lawnmower blenny, 1 clown fish because the other one unalived himself by jumping out of the tank somehow, 4 saltwater mollies, and 1 emerald crab. The only issue that i have come accrossed so far and have paid a hefty price because of it was my refractometer was way off so my salinity was super high but now that is fixed and everything is running as smooth as it can be and i am still loving every second i get to watch this tank :)

Well, almost 8 months old and just a little bit more of a progress update. After the whole salinity issue with my refractometer, everything seems to be falling into place now. Ive just added my first easy corals being a small frag of xenia and green star polyps and theyre doing great. Ive added a few more turbo snails. One thing ive come accrossed though is these small white calcified deposits just dont know what they are yet but theyre everywhere.

So as of right now if anyone has any insight my parameters are
Mg 1500
Cal 442
Phos .07
Nitrate 0.0 but was 4.4 before my water change yesterday and added 2ml of neonitro last night
Alk 10.0
sal 1.026
temp 78.7

My gsp back in sept was fully open, since than the polyps are only opening halfway and i cant figure out why, nothing has changed except my alk and mg which ive been slowly increasing along with my nitrate and phos im dosing to keep from bottoming out. Any help would be appreciated

Looks good . Watch those Scarlett hermit crabs . They may go after the conch . Mine did anyway .
Surprisingly the scarlet now has moved 2 different shells and is a monster but he mainly stays on the rocks and i havent seen him bother (crazy joe) the conch, so im super thankful for that :)

Gettin closer to my one year mark and what a journey its been. I was so scared to start this project due to the expenses for startup wondering if id even be able to enjoy it. Well the answer is i love it. I have wound up working so much overtime to be able to get dofferent testers, to dosing, and im finally starting to increase my livestock and comfort not worrying 24hrs a day about something going wrong or whether or not im doing something correctly. If anything im enjoying it more because of how many aspects come into play about this hobby and i love reading and watching videos and talking with so many awesome people here on r2r or out in different forums or fb groups wothin the community. I have even been thinking of going down to the expo this year in orlando while i visit my hometown in FL so hopefully thatll come true. Thanks for everyone whos helped along the way and to everyone ill meet and speak with this year. Happy reefing
