Your mess makes me feel better about my mess! ;)
Thanks! Glad to know I'm not the only one :D
Also, you don't add Kalk to your ATO water, do you? Why not just use your RODI holding tank as your ATO container? Just make sure you add a siphon break and it should work just fine.
Nope, no Kalk. I haven't used the RODI holding tank yet because the ATO won't reach that far. I'm thinking the new ATO (when I get around to getting one) will though.
Any new pics of the display with the lights on?
Yes! They are coming up!
Thanks for taking us along for the adventure!
Thanks for following along! congrats on your new build :)

FTS - Still looks about the same I think. The new corals are doing pretty well, though the aptasia is still an issue :(

The clowns, cardinal and blue star leopard. Just as a size reference, the female (black misbar) is about 3 inches, maybe a hair under.

On a sad note: My copperband died suddenly today. It's unfortunate of course, and I wish I could have saved him. It was a gram negative bacterial infection that showed up only this morning. This picture is from this AM when I first saw it.

I didn't have the Rally here, so I took him to work and put him in the QT there after a rally dip. He perked up some and reacted well to the antibiotics, but didn't make it past a couple hours. :( Rest in peace little buddy.

Since he died, I guess I can show yall the other fish in QT. Everybody KNOCK ON WOOD and wish me luck with these guys.

Copperband butterfly - Died - Achilles Tang- eating frozen finally and scarfing down nori - Regal Tang - Also eating frozen and scarfing own nori. the regal is presenting odd patches on his body tonight but I'm having a hard time identifying what it might be. Could just be his night-time "fade out" or it could be something bacterial setting in. This fish is much healthier than the CBB was since that fish never ate a single thing that I saw. I'm going to wait until morning before making any changes. The erythromycin I dosed last night should be fine until morning anyway.

They have another week left on observation. Though now the hippo is displaying some weird patches on his body that have me slightly concerned. Oddly, the Achilles seems unaffected so far by anything at all. (knocks on wood) I'm working on figuring out what is going on with the hippo, so nobody will go to the display until that is figured out.

I too have a hippo and I'm planning my next upgrade and one of the factors with my tank size decision is the adult size of the hippo. I was torn between 180@6x2x2 and 240@8x2x2 and started to lean toward the 8 ft tank. I see this is a 6ft tank and you are one of the most experienced fish keepers at reef2reef. What are your thoughts on the 6ft vs 8ft for full grown hippo? Do you plan on keeping the hippo in here until full grown? I hope he starts looking better btw.

If your able to go 8ft then do it. I do plan to keep him and the Achilles until they are full grown, but that may end up meaning I have to get a larger tank in the future. The 6ft tank is great and I'm confident that I'll be able to keep both of these large fish for many years before I have to upgrade again :)

I've had mine since it was the size of a 50 cent piece and he is about 3 years old and still fits my 4 ft at around 5-6 inches. I plan on being in my next tank in about 20 months. I'm doing it slowly by buying and storing equipment as I can afford it and building the stand/canopy and storing it as well. I'm hoping to just need the glass by 20 months from now based on my schedule. One thing is for sure; this hobby has taught me the value of patience and planning. Thanks Meredith!

I don't know if anybody noticed this in my update above, but I sure didn't! There's a big "dent" or chunk missing out of the top of my toadstool here. I didn't notice it until today when I did a water change. In the back of the tank I found a baby!! It dropped a baby on it's own and it floated around to the back of the tank. That was rescued and given to a friend. I'm pretty sure that weird shaped piece just the right of center (at the top edge of the toadstool) will drop off as well to be a new baby! Pretty cool what our corals can do.

Oh and I found my fuzzy chiton! These guys are so weird, but cool at the same time. Great CUC. When I bought him at the beginning of this build he was smaller than my pinky nail. Now he's a little larger than my thumb nail I suppose. That's still pretty small but I was able to see him real easy.

Lol fuzzy chiton makes more sense my lfs was selling them calling them sea biscuits.

That's a weird name! I bet the supplier they got them from was calling them something similar (or even exactly that) and the LFS employee just didn't know better or wasn't sure of the real name. That happens at the shop I work at all the time. The suppliers will have something I know to be called one thing labeled as something else totally ridiculous and obviously made up for their own purposes.

Are you still happy with you gyre and what size is it since we have the same tank I figured that you are the best to ask thanks.

I've very happy with it. It's the XF250 I believe with controller. I need to take it out and clean it next water change, but it's been performing to my level of expectations so I can't complain even a little. It definitely moves water from one end of the tank to the other to the point that the MP40 (on the other side) is barely doing anything noticeable. lol

The tangs are still in QT. I'm having a run-in with something very stubborn to get rid of. Current thinking is that it's brook, but I have CP on the way and metro+ cupramine for the hippo (Tried coppersafe three times already). Anyway, here are some pictures of the beautiful babies.
