I just checked my build thread the “original” wrasse that helped me was actually Halichoeres leucoxanthus the current one is H. chrysus but I think both would do the job. Second one I purchased back then was a young six line wrasse also very effective against flatworms.
Six Line will be added eventually. First though I need a Psuedochromis Springeri and an H. Chrysus. Six Line may come before or after the final Tang I'm hoping to add.

I think I see a lot of flying dead flatworms in my 260 gallon tank. It’s been about 2 days since I removed my acropora. I noticed this today. Was not like this yesterday.

Could the adults be starving out? Very interesting observation. I think someone told me it takes about 2 days for flatworms to starve without the acros.

Sticking the course. :)

I tried KCl dips and Bayer. I think I prefer the Bayer. I might stick with that. Plan to do it every 6 days for 6 weeks.

I would say keep on keeping on and to be honest had a buddy go through something similar removed all acros and it was almost like they suspended in there looking for something to attach to and eat just keep an eye on it and monitor I would say after a couple of days you should either a notice a decline or B notice more depending on how many were in the system in the first place

Miami, do you run carbon?
Yes. BRS 0.8. I use a good amount and change it 1-2x per month. I also use Ozone, which should make the carbon last longer.

The flatworms release toxins, right?

Now's the time to add wrasses. Sounds like a lot of suspended free food!
The LFS was expecting a shipment today, but I completely forgot to call them.

I will consider adding wrasses because I genuinely like them, but I’ve been putting them off because I don’t like having lids on my tank.

I have a melanurus which hasn’t jumped. My tank is eurobraced, so perhaps that helps a bit.

I run 100 micron filter socks that I change 2x per week.

That’s why I haven’t been much interested in adding wrasses.

i cant think

Why not get a net lid? you likely won’t see it so it shouldn’t cause an eyesore.

As for wrasses, you need Atleast 10! A couple fairies and flashers for the display and some other Halichoeres and Leopards for the hunting.
I think an iridis would look great in your tank ;)

That Orange Shoulder...
He‘s is my favorite fish by far! I love the way he skirts across, peppering the front glass with kisses as he tries to nip the inexistent algae. He’s just precious!

I think I was too rough with my acropora during the last dip.

I turkey basted them. They were in that container in the picture above. They were rubbing against the container and each other.

Now they are growing algae on the tips and corallites.

It‘s a steep learning curve. I’m doing OK. I’m learning, and by the end, I will have this figured out. If I lose some acros, I won’t be devastated, since they were never thriving in the first place. I didn’t have any expectations, since this was my first time doing dips.

I would like to have an idea on how I can turkey baste them in a dip without them rolling around. Perhaps a frag rack in a 5 gallon bucket - there we go! I finally figured out an idea.

Sometimes writing to yourself helps a lot.

What's the alk and Phosphates in the hospital tank?
I need to test the alk again. The PO4 was 0.02ppm yesterday when I saw the algae issues growing.

I microscoped the algae: it’s diatoms.

The question is, what made the tips die? Aggressive basting? Or chemistry related?
It’s not just the tips. It’s all over the coral. I think they rolled around too much in the container from the basting. I didn’t have them on a frag rack.

That's good then. The chances to recover are greater.

You must be basting hard... I wouldn't think it requires a lot of force, usually a gentle squeeze will easily knock off the worms.

Although a rack is ideal... I wouldn't say it's necessary.

Acros are looking MUCH better. I did a big water change, turkey basted the algae off the corals, dosed peroxide for 2 days, and had a UV sterilizer installed (I saw mild dinos mixed with the diatoms).

The display is doing very well, too. I’ve been pretty happy these past few days. I feel hopeful for the future.
