What do you define as rescued? Is buying an adult sun conure from a pet store considered rescued?
Depends on what the store looks like if it looks like crap then it’s definitely a rescue :face-with-tears-of-joy:

No, it is not. The pet store will buy more birds from breeders to sell. Rescues all over the U.S are full with birds who need homes. Mostly from people who are older and can no longer take care of them. Some because they do not go with the decor anymore, some because they became too loud or too needy. Some because kids went off to school or because of a new baby. The list goes on and on.

Agreed but I’d say most because they got a bird when they should have gotten a hamster. Aka they weren’t ready/didn’t know about the commitment it took. Too many people don’t know what they’re getting into with a parrot. A great pet but a massive commitment. At least that was my feel from working at rescues.

I bet half the people don’t know they can live for 50+ years. And if you purchase a young one if your a senior you have to put the bird in the will most of the time lol.

Okay, I know I'm late to the party, but I just read through your thread this morning and your system is amazing! If there's room for one more in here, I'm following!

Look at this ENORMOUS cage that finally arrived! The bird is too young to live in it, but he will very soon!

Look at all the perches that’s coming!! I like natural wood setups and I’m into a minimalist aesthetic. The perches will be spaced apart so the bird can jump/fly from perch to perch.

I also have a nice amount of toys coming.

I’m putting my sun conure on a Harrison’s pellet diet with fruits, veggies, and nutriberries as a supplement.

I see you’re using the website lol. For the flat floor perches get a big one or a corner one or put 2 or 3 together as I see they use it and like it more.

Does anyone know what causes rust on bird cages overtime?

If you haven’t been caught up, I tried getting a used bird cage from Facebook Marketplace, but I realized it had a lot of rust, so I ended up just buying a high quality, brand new cage myself.

I want to prevent rust. What causes rust? I know cages left outside are very prone to rusting. Is it because of the sunlight or moisture (or both?)

The cage in my room gets a few hours of sunlight from the window. Will this cause rusting?

I’m honestly not sure I had cage that my grandfather put a coating on and it didn’t rust for ages. I did make sure it was bird safe but I don’t remember what it consisted of.

Looking great so far!
Once the powder coating chips, it can rust especially if it is outside and weather.

I don't think you will have to worry about that.

Great choices on food too :)
Oooh what food is it!? Harrison’s?

I use Zupreem, but Harrison's is great too!
Just be super super careful.....
Peas slipped out the front door yesterday.... spent yesterday and today in the cold rain looking for him. Keep your hopes up for me, mine aren't doing well today.

I also use Zupreem natural.
@OrchidMiss if its raining that may be a good thing too. He will stay hunkered but he will definitely be tired and wanting to get home. Don't give up!
They usually stay within a mile too.
