Hey guys,

*Jump to page 11 for the current tank*

Michael from Sweden here. Been lurking for some time and thought it was high time to contribute something.

A little back story: been keeping fish as long as I can remember, mostly large predatory freshwater fish.

I believe I started my first reef tank when I was around 12, guessing year 2000.
Eventually ended up with a 720L (180g in old money) mixed reef.
Around five years in I managed to contract every pest imaginable at the same time: monti nudibrancs, AEFW, other varieties of flatworms etc which made me lose most of my corals since I didn’t catch it in time.
That coupled with moving made me say god bye to reefing for over 10 years.

A year ago I got the itch again and got the ball rolling again.

Here are some pictures from when I was just starting back up again:

Some info about what I’ve got under the hood:

Lights: 160w 16k razor
Skimmer: deltec MC500 (ancient, I’ve had it since my last go-around but still in perfect working order)
UV: Deltec 20w
Circulation: 2x jebao wave makers + jebao return pump
Overflow box: eshops eclipse
ATO: Tunze osmolator

I believe in KISS and not chasing numbers. My nutrient export consists of skimming, refugium and 10% weekly water changes.
I don’t dose anything except kalkwasser in my ATO container + reef energy A and B.

Next addition (and one of the last) will be a gold dwarf moray if I can find one.

I’m having, not really a problem but it confuses me.
I’ve had the tank set up for a bit over a year at this point (well, did switch tanks a couple of weeks ago but kept everything) and I’m still not seeing much coralline on the marco rock.
I started the tank with about 50/50 marco/live rock and most of the live rock + pumps etc are getting good growth but only a couple of specks on the marco.
Never set up a reef tank with anything but 100% live rock before and never seen this happen.
Anyone else who has had this experience?

In other news: I think I’ve might overdone it in terms of lighting intensity for one of my new Acro frags, seeing som bleaching on the tip of the branches so going to ramp it down a bit.

Been away for a few days and came back today to a fairly dirty tank, so time for a WC.

Bought a browned out aquacultured acro a week ago and it’s started to show signs of turning a bright green:

This is the acro that I think I fried a bit with to bright lights, notice the white tips.

Not getting much polyp extension due to my flame angels nipping. Luckily, it doesn’t seem like he’s doing any real damage.

Rearrange the scape a little bit to open it up a bit more.

Getting some decent growth on the acro pictured and from most other corals as well.

A milli recently started STN without no obvious cause, I think I’m going to see if I can save some of it by fragging and dipping tomorrow.

I have some new actors coming in next week: a Miyagi tort, a pacman and a unidentified purple tabeling acro.

There’s a online vendor that has some 15cm maxima clams for sale, might pull the trigger on one of them :)

Hey guys, I would really appreciate some input on the settings for my lighting!

Model: Maxspect razor 160w

Current settings:
13:30 W8% B15%
14:30 W60% B100%
19:00 W55% B100%
20:00 W55 B90%
21:00 W0% B50%
22:30 W0% B0%

The tank is 60cm deep.

I honestly have no idea if this is good or not.
On my last tank 10 or so years ago I had 3*250w metal halides and a couple of T5s...simpler times, just set and forget [emoji1]

Oh and while I’m at it. I believe this is a Acropora plana(?), what would be the best placement in terms of flow and lightning?

Haven’t updated this thread for a good long while since not much has been going on with the tank.
Me and my fiancé are getting married in a couple of weeks and apparently a wedding is one heck of a time/money sink + I’ve booked a fishing trip to Thailand so time and funds have been limited lately.

But my girl just sent me these pictures of our six month old Maine coon [emoji1]

b3d7ad8ce2802100162547668858ba18.jpg

Not sure what to do to keep him from trying this again. At the rate he’s growing the net won’t hold him for much longer.
Any ideas? [emoji38]

In other news Sweden was hit by heatwave like never before.
I was away from home for two weeks with my girl taking care of the tank. She just knows the basics (feedin, topping of the ato etc) and the tank was sitting at around 30-30.5 degrees Celsius for like 10 days.
Lost most of my acros and the rest of the sps are still looking rough even though I’ve been home for two weeks and immediately got the temp down to 26.

When the wedding is done and dusted I’m going to give the tank a overhaul to correct any lingering problems and the invest in some new coral :)

Thanks buddy!
Yeah, I had no idea it could be this bad [emoji1]

I always thought myself to be fairly desensitized when it came to spending money on stuff due to expensive interests but this was something else!

Went to what would be fairly similar to petco here in Sweden to pick up some cat food and came across this Acro.
I usually don’t buy stuff here but I always have a look at their tanks when I’m there to pick something else up and I remember seeing this pice a long time ago before the Indonesian export ban so it’s been there for a long time.

Managed to talk them in to do a fairly good deal on it due to the tissue loss/bleaching.
Dipped the hell out of it, placed it on the bottom in good flow and hoping for the best, I’m seeing some decent PE after 30 minutes so I’m hopeful. It has a bit of a green tint to it.

Anyone who can guess at what species it is?

I haven’t been completely pleased with LEDs comparing them against my old mh/T5 hybrid up so I retrofitted a 2*24w T5 set up from Hagen to my maxspect razor to get some more diffused light.

I went with one blue plus and one aquablue special from ATI.

My phone sucks at capturing the colors but I’m fairly pleased, better coverage and decent color. I will probably mess around with bulb combinations in the future.
The first picture is with just the LEDs and the second with led+T5

Going to slowly ramp them up starting with 30min a day and adding another 30min every five days until I reach 4h.

I just threw it together after work today, the plan is to do a better job on the wiring over the weekend.

Nice set up.
The cat will learn not to sit on top once it drops through the net. Lol
Lovely cat.

Thanks buddy :)
I actually removed the top from fear of him falling through the net and causing havoc.

His name is Lucifer and that’s an apt name, he’s a real little ******* but we love him [emoji1]
