Hi Michael, any news on the new tank?

It should have arrived yesterday but that fell through for whatever reason.
I was told yesterday that it will be picked up tomorrow by the delivery driver and delivered to me on Monday. Bad timing since I’m going away over the weekend so I won’t have any time to work on the tank.

There are still some stuff that needs doing, like finishing the electrical, drilling holes through the wall for the plumbing, glueing baffles and building a stand for the sump.

Ok, this time the date just might be solid. It seems that the tank has been picked up in Poland.
I also got a couple of pictures of it and so far, so good:

Ok, the new tank is finally here!

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to bring it inside since I had a job-thing to attend during the evening so it’s currently sitting inside my carport.

The tank looks lovely and the seems are a thing of beauty, blows my current Red Sea tank out of the water.
Just one “slight” problem, the tankbuilder forgot to build the dang stand! He promised to priorities that so hopefully it’s not three more months of waiting.

Managed to get the tank inside the house. It was a tight squeeze getting it through our basement entrance.

Now I just need a dang stand and we can get this party started!

Crap! I’ve had problems with keeping my nutrients up and since I’ve been keeping my hands out of the tank due to the coming transfer growth has increased and in turn, nutrient uptake has also increased.

I’ve had to baste of some gunk that collected in the middle of this Millie every now and again. I was away for awhile and forgot to do that and the combination with bombing my nutrients resulted in:

I cut of as many healthy branches as I could, hoping for some to survive.

I had some time over the weekend to build the stand for the sump and pick up the tank that will serve as the actual sump.
It lead to a fairly funny exchange between me and my wife when she went out to see what I was doing in the garage:

- Hey, what are you doing?
- Building an aquarium stand.
- Are you sure that the new tank will fit on that? Looks kind of small.
- NoNo, this is for the sump.
-In that case it looks kind of to big! (Walks away shaking her head) :D

As you can see my dumb butt built the stand to dang tall to be able to be placed behind the door and clear the door handle.

After some swearing I corrected my mistake and glued the baffles in place/assembled the Clari sea as well. I don’t need a intricate sump so it will just consist of filter roller/skimmer section, a large refugium and a return chamber.
All in all it came out fairly well, now I just need to have the cabinet delivered and drill some holes in the wall and we’re ready to transfer everything.

Oh, in case any of you were wondering: yes, the sump will comfortably fit a fully grown Maine coon

Well, still no stand. They claim that it’s 100% complete but they are having trouble shipping it to Sweden. Luckily I haven’t transferred anything for it as of yet so if it’s not here soon I can tell them to shove it.
Two factors that makes this extra time sensitive is that my vacation is nearly over and we’ve got a kid coming in October, I was really hoping to have everything set up when my vacation was over.

I’ve managed to coax a buddy of mine who’s an electrician to come help me run the electrical for the tank. The tank will have two breakers that are exclusively for the fish room.

I was going to cover this bundle of pipes anyway and now it has the added benefit of being able to house a bunch of cables out of sight.

I’m going to sand/paint it as soon as I’ve swapped tanks.
I also took the time to mount a wall cabinet above the sump that will house power bricks, dosing pump etc. Also ran a LED strip On the bottom of the cabinet for some extra light when I’m messing about in the sump

That’s about it, hopefully the stand will show up any day now.

Great update.
Looks like time is standing still all around the world due to the pandemic so we (reefers) are getting used to being more patient than we already were.

I’m both a reefer, anger and a hunter...how much more patient can I possibly get?! :p

Ha, reefer and angler I have in common with you.
You are very well located to do all that.

What other things are you planning in the fishroom? Watermixing, qt, ...?

Yeah, I just got back from a trip to my home town that has some much better fishing possibilities than I have in Stockholm. Took a short trip over to Denmark to do some sturgeon fishing and caught a couple of nice zanders on the local lake

I have two 100L vats that I will be using for storing RO and saltwater. As soon as I have the plumbing done the plan is to implement an auto start/shut off of the rodi filter by using the solenoid valve from tunze.

I’m hoping that the pumps that comes with the automatic water change system will be powerful enough to draw water from the vat on the other side of the room. If not I’ll have to find a solution for that.

I don’t believe in medicated QT’s but I have toyed with the idea of setting up a separate system for observational QT.

When everything is set up and has been running for a while I’ll most likely plumb a frag tank to the sump.

Some good news is that I’ve finally revived a couple of (albeit bad) pictures of the stand and it might ship tomorrow according to the guy. Look well built at least:

The stand has finally arrived!
Just one little problem: the darn thing is stupidly heavy for a stand. While we were trying to get it inside the scrawny delivery guy somehow managed to throw his back out so we had to settle with getting it inside my carport.
I’ll try and get some buddy’s from my powerlifting gym to stop by over the weekend and it should be sorted in a few.

Luckily the stand looks excellent as far as I can tell from pictures from the builder/what I can see through the packaging

Something that I did not expect is that all pannels/doors are covered in a thin piece of glass

Oh, I managed to stumble I cross a good deal on a Giesemann Aurora in polar white. I “accidentally” bought it and it just arrived. Can’t wait to put this thing over the new tank!!!

Looks great.
What is the idea behind the left and right pillar on the stand (with hinges)?

That is a sweet light and find.

Those are for attaching a back trim to hide the fact that the stand isn’t flush to the wall due to the external overflow.
The hinges are so that they are easy to open up and get behind the tank if need be.
