Anyone know what the absolute minimum amount of water above the ReefWave 45 would be...?

1" of water above the barrel? 1.5". 2"...?

place it deep! i have a reef wave 45 mounted 6" deep and the cage that directs flow rotated and blew water out and over and onto the cabinet that houses my ecotech ballasts. nearly started a fire and wiped out a lot of my ballasts.

Whoa, this looks like a deal-breaker, since the advantage of these style of gyre pumps is the ability to mount it high. Any other experiences out there?
