Does anyone know what the highest I can put a tank that’s 72”Lx24”Wx30”H if I only have 7ft ceiling? I need to know how much clearance I need for lighting and I can’t build a stand before I figure that out so if anyone out there has a tank the same size and has it set up please help!! I’m new at this and I was gifted the aquarium

I would try and decide what height you want for viewing then work from there. I like shorter stands viewed from the couch etc but like taller when most viewing is from a standing position. Light mounting height is going to be determined by your lights and spread you want.

Same here............7' ceiling and tank of the same dimensions. tank is in wall and I purposely had the stand built 38" high as I'm 6' 4" tall and didn't to constantly bend down to view the tank.

I have 14" of clearance between top of tank and ceiling. Lights (Radions) are mounted from the ceiling using 80/20 aluminum which gives a clearance of 12" between the bottom of the lights and the water. HTH

Thanks for the reply, I’m new at this. I don’t know anything about the lights. Radians are high end lights I’m thinking, how many did you use to cover the tank and do they penetrate all the way to the bottom? I’m screwed till I figure out this light thing because I don’t know how high I can make my stand. Is yours made out of 2x6’s or is it metal. If you could take a pic and show me what everything looks like the way it’s set up and your aquarium I’d appreciate it, just so I have an idea

Well I want my stand at 38” and the tanks 30” that that will give 14” of clearance to the ceiling. The other guy that replied said he has the same set and using radions. I have no idea what they are. I’m starting from the bottom. Apparently there’s so many different types of lights. How do you know what ones will work before buying them because they’re crazy expensive lol.

Hey sorry to bother you again but, I was just thinking, I went downstairs and marked the walls with tape and set the tape at 38” like you said for top of stand then added 30” for aquarium that gave me 16” from tank to ceiling. Can you do me a favour if you have the time and double to see if it’s a 7ft ceiling and the height of stand, tank and lights etc. Bro I’d really appreciate you doing all this for me. I can’t find anyone that is in the same situation as us. It’s impossible I’ve been scrolling the net for weeks. Thanks!!

Just double checked the measurements. All are accurate with the exception of the height of the tank, which measures 31-5/8" from the top of the trim to the bottom of the trim. HTH

How much is a lighting system like that setting me back in your American and I’m Canadian so it probably going to cost me more unless I take a lil trip across the white line and buy em there? Thanks for taking the time outta your day for me for the pics.

@G-BO you need to set your priorities, then back into building the setup you want.

Almost anything is possible.

Why don't you tell us how high you want your tank?

Is it a 30" tank? Do you want people to see it when standing up or sitting down- those are different setups.

The type of tank will determine how much maintenance in the tank is needed. Ie: reef, or FOWLR.

7' ceiling = 84"
Wouldn't go less than 16" inches, just to stick your head in and get an arm, or a piece of live rock in there.
That means 84-16 = 68"
If you tank is 30", 68-30 = 38" high stand.

NOW, keep in mind that's a suggested minimum, if you have specific requests, you should consider lower, or higher for that matter.

Those are all really good points to take into consideration. I’m glad you said 16” minimum because that’s what hight I have the stand set for. I’ve just put it together. Thanks for the reply
