Most, but not all! I had a "Perfect Storm" tank crash several years ago. I had a magnetic glass scraper in the tank. The casing leaked And I didn't realize it. The magnet started rusting and leached metals into the tank. This caused a HUGE GHA bloom. When I finally figured out what was causing it and removed and threw away the magnet, I had already lost several corals.

Once I got the GHA under control I started noticing a lot of recession on my Montis that wasn't getting better. I started looking close and found an infestation of Monti Eating Nudibranches.

Between the magnet and the Nudibranches, I lost close to 70% of the corals in my 75 gallon mixed reef tank.

What do you think the best way is to not become complacent?
Keep a schedule. Daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, every 6 months, every year. I have tasks for each of these. Keep a log- journal. Never stop studying and always learning. Get into a community. Even if it's Facebook group, posting on YouTube ect. This will help keep you accountable, keep your interests in the hobby. Mentor others.

I was kinda trying to be funny…. :p
It still applies to me though. I’m losing zoas left and right lately. About 75 frags melted away so far. I wasn’t paying enough attention.

Funny, you hit the nail on the head,

The aquarist is a highly influential factor for aquarium health, possibly far greater than any other factor. Even though likely responsible for most fish and coral death, we don’t have a sticky in any forum discussing this factor.

Even if it's Facebook group,
OH GOD NO!!! Anything but that toxic dump of collective misinformation. In my first month of reefing I joined 2 different Saltwater for Beginners groups on FB, both were so toxic as to make me want to quit the hobby and full of the worst advice, nothing but Chemical Treatments and trolls.

Honestly if I hadn't found these forums, I doubt I would still be in the hobby. Here the help out numbers the trolls about 10 to 1 or more it seems. thanks for that, makes it easier for this extremely anti-social person to participate.

Honestly I hate how accurate it is.

All the crashes I’ve had so far have been one of my mistakes. Whether it was reusing old sand and causing an ammonia spike or changing what I dose too quickly.
