For better or worse, I also decided to rinse my new Caribsea Fiji pink live sand. Regardless of the “live” bacteria loaded into it, after seeing the clouds for two years on my 65 gallon tank when my wrasse beds at night or whatever I wanted to at least start off with it cloudless.

Nice! What all fish are you planning to put in the tank?
Thanks!
my current fish stock consists of
Foxface Lo
Purple tang
Two spot bristletooth
2 clowns
Midas blenny
Melanorus wrasse
2 pj cardinals
2 bangi cardinals
2 zebra bar dart fish

I want to add another tang but not sure which one along with a royal gramma, maybe a pistol shrimp and goby pair, and a coral beauty or flame angel.

Nice! I love the flame angels. I am very tempted to add one as well.

Well I finally have the display full of water! And the overflow has started to fill up. Hopefully by tomorrow evening it will be full and I can plug some stuff in and see if it’s all going to work.

I’ve been measuring out the first fill in gallons for my curiosity and also for accuracy when it comes time to dose anything in the future. At idle, after rock and sand displacement, the display holds 154 gallons and there is currently 10 gallons in the sump. I’m guessing all said and done, total water volume will be very close to 190-200 gallons.
It’s a boring but exciting update. I will admit with this being my first sump, I about had a heart attack when the water made its way through the overflow and into the sump. I was so concerned about checking for any leaks around all the bulkheads the noise it started making made me think something had failed! But all is good so far.

the plumbing strap holding the drains is temporary until I get some nice supports.

Nice! I was guessing about 200 gallons for mine. Good to know for dosing purposes!

I’m really looking forward to the day I can be sps dominant! Here is a pic of my rainbows army for the battlecorals grow out contest just for fun, currently about 3 weeks since receiving it …. Along with some others I hope will do well once in the system later on.

So a little update. The tank has been full and running for a few days. I plugged everything in for the first time not knowing for sure if the used return pump or skimmer was even going to work. I was struggling with the drains making lots of noise for 4 days and then accidentally discovered that the gyres were causing it. If you want to see the issue you can watch the video here in my help me post..

I’m definitely going to have to play around with placement and see if I can get flow in the tank without too much noise.

tonight I went ahead and dosed 8 oz of FritzZyme turbostart 900 and moved two bangi cardinals over.
I do hvac for a living and have a guy that lives 5 min away from me that sells coral. His prices are way better than any lfs as he is a wholesaler. Anyway, I installed a mini split in his garage as he is expanding his frag tanks into that area. Tomorrow I get to go get paid in coral for my labor. So I’m planning on putting some lps in the tank too. I threw on a couple of AI primes over the tank set at 20%. I don’t want to blast the tank but I do want to add biodiversity from corals.
