My 28 Bowfront started as a freshwater Cichlid tank. After about 2 years, my boy which had a 90 Gallon reef tank showed me that it wasn't that hard to start a reef up so I went ahead and converted the Bowfront to a reef. After learning things online and the hard way, everything started booming and my corals were out growing my 28 Bowfront that was running for 4 years. Fast forward to my birthday weekend (Beginning of September 2012), the wife gave me the green light to upgrade. My only issue is room as I'm in a 2/2 2nd floor condo. With measurements taken, the best and more logical upgrade was to an Edge 57. I ended up getting a great deal on the tank from Rob at Exotic Aquatic in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. One of my boys then build me a custom stand, Thanks Jan! He also assisted me in the plumbing and planning everything out. I'm 6'3" so I didn't want to bend over to look at my tank anymore so the stand was built 44" tall. While it was being build, I was busy building a refugium/sump from a 20 gal high tank and glass baffles cut by another friend, good looking out Smitty! While all this is going down, the parts are being ordered; Reef Octopus NWB-110, Reef Octopus Media Reactor, another MP10w, Mag 7 pump, 60lbs of new Reef Sand, 57lbs of live rock, Schedule 80 piping, and metal brackets for a custom Radion hanger. After everything was painted and built, Vic from Coral Kingdom in Pembroke Pines, Fl. delivered the salt water and the cycling began. I also put some rocks and sand I had sitting in the 28 Bowfront in the DIY refugium/sump while using some Nightout II for bacteria. 2 weeks later (11/10/12) with the help of my boys, Jan and Larry everything was transferred to the Edge 57. Let me know what you guys think!
