So long story short I have finally got around to building a new reef tank. Due to space restrictions I had to go from a 75 to a 40. This is my second attempt at building a reef system. The last one was actually doing well when life got in the way so I'm gonna have at it again.
I saved all the expensive stuff and put it in storage so I wouldn't have to rebuy it all. So here it goes:

I bought a brand new tank and the equipment I will be using is leftover

I built the stand myself not Perfect but I'm no carpenter lol

I used a eshopps overflow down to a Trigger sapphire sump thanks to a great deal from #scurvy

I used a split return with valves and one way valve on each just in case the power goes out it won't siphon back into the sump

I'm using a Reef Octopus Varios 4 pump for the return and a cobalt heater.

I am goin to use the extra space on the ends to put 2 towers. The left side will house all my electronics and the other end will be shelved for all my test kits, chemicals etc.
I got one side done today except for the door

I also put a manifold on this tank in case I ever want to run any more equipment. 20190726_195733.jpg

I plan to purchase a apex with in the next couple of weeks and then when the tank is done cycling put up my lights. I have one hydra 26 but will purchase another one when ready.i had a hybrid setup with t5s but it is too big for this tank.
I will keep this updated when I can thanks for looking h 20190811_160049.jpg 20190811_132225.jpg

So these are gonna be my 2 and pieces on either side of the tank.all my electronics and apex will go on the right and the shelves will be on the right for all my additives and test kits etc.

So I got some time to work on the tank some and I got it pretty much complete. A few finishing touches . Gotta get the skimmer goin and then the fuge 20190817_140222.jpg 20190817_140252.jpg 20190817_140307.jpg 20190817_140211.jpg

The 40b is a nice tank with a lot of flexibility so that is a good start! The stand doesn't have to be pretty as long as it can handle the weight and is level...um...is it level? :)

Yes I actually got some really cool heavy duty screw in feet .it was very easy to level. I don't think I had done it yet when that picture was taken

Great! Where did you get the adjustable feet?

Nice work on the plumbing! Is that the Eschopps Eclipse L?

Also, way to go with the drilling - was that 4 holes that you drilled?

I got the feet on Amazon . They were w
Easy to install.just drill a hole hammer in the blind nut and screw in the foot. I think the overflow was the 800. I honestly can't remember. It has 3 outside so 1 to sump and 2 emergency for this system . I rent this house so I want no tragedies. I drilled 4 holes 2 overflow and 2 returns.

Thanks for the feedback! I think the model with two holes from the tank and three to the sump is the Eschopps Eclipse L. Some may say that is over sized, but I agree that is a really nice overflow box and is great to limit risks!

I'll be honest I wasnt sure which one to go with.i used a synergy shadow on my last tank and it was awesome. this one is good has good flow. I actually had to turn down the flow cause it was very loud and it's in the living room. I got it dialed in now so you can barely hear it.

I am also building out a 40b and used the eshopps overflow. I went with the medium size because I'm making my tank a peninsula style system. I wanted to leave enough space for power heads and returns on the sides of the overflow. What size returns do you plan to run?

Wow - nice job with the plumbing. A very clean design. Look forward to seeing your tank take shape. Did you get the lights? Have you finished cycling? How did you cycle? Ammonia?
