Now for the exciting part ! My quarantine tank came in! I set it up a few days ago in my bedroom on my night stand ! The wife was pleased and liked the idea she could look at the fish while she’s in bed. I placed my first fish order with saltwater fish.com. My goal is to keep quarantine light as I don’t want to have ammonia issues. I have all meds and a ammonia badge ready to go. My first order is 2 bengi Cardinals and a stary blenny. I’m very excited to finally have some fish. I’m he order is set for delivery on Thursday. Here are a few quick pics of the qt

I will be trying to test my water parameters daily esp the alk calc and mag. I’ve been noticing bigger swings in my alk and calc the last few weeks. I currently dose by hand and don’t think I need a doser yet but we are getting close. My system is when I get new coral I place them in the DT on a frag rack, here I leave them for a month or so. This allows my to watch them and how the act throughout different parts of the day. I’m going to see @usernam invalid friday so I’m thinking it’s time to mount these corals onto there final resting places on the rockwork so I have some room for new additions.
As of yesterday 11/12 at 2 pm my params were as follows:
Alk 8.3
Calc: 450
Mag: 1300
Phosphate: .23
Nitrate :1-5

Glad you were able to get your algae problem under control. Everything is looking good, look forward to your first fish in the tank. Looking at this reminds me it is time to do an update on my thread, have added a bunch more coral.

Yea it was amazing what raising my nutrients did for my tank. All my corals colored up and have good polyp extension. I took some side by side to compare growth. These corals are about 2 months in my tank

Quick update tonight.
First fish in QT! I have 2 bengi cardinals and a stary blenny. They have been in quarantine for 24 hrs now. I tried feeding today and one cardinal ate and the other didn’t. Also the stary blenny had a few pieces of mysis shrimp. Over the next few days I will work on getting them to eat.

I went to @usernam invalid okace today and once again he didn’t disappoint. So I went home and moved forks off my frag rack into there final resting places in the DT. I picked up 5 corals in total today. I have some pics but they are all closed up as they just got done acclimating.

Still battling some sort of brown alage idk if it’s cyano or dinoflagellates. But for the most party everything is on track.

What corals did you pick up? For the algae on your sandbed I had something very similar and found that manually stirring it once a day for about a week completely cleared it up for me.

Thank you @usernam invalid im terrible with names. I’ll have to start writing them down hahahaha.

On another subject I’m still battling this stringy brown alage that blows off the rocks with a turkey baster. I blew everything off this morning and by the end of the day it was back. The brown sometimes has bubbles in it and sometimes dosnt. I’m not really sure where to go from here to fight this issue

I believe that is a poccilipora, I love the Blenny.
I live blennys also but did not have success the first 2 times I had them. This one is fatter and healthier than the other 2 I tried. I was told at the store he his eating frozen food but I’ve fed twice and he didn’t really seem interested. He did eat a few pieces of frozen mysis but that’s about it. He also wasn’t interested in the algae sheet. I’m hoping I can keep him alive ....... I really don’t want to put him in the DT until I see him eat but on the other hand my DT has all the alage and what not for him to eat idk what to do ...... @Barrett @usernam invalid

I am a firm believer in prolific treatment in qt, but only after the fish are comfortable and eating well. I would try feeding a variety of different foods including live black worms or enriched baby brine shrimp. If the algae in your DT is Dino’s, some forms can be toxic to fish that eat them.

Tank update !

My fish in quarantine are doing ok. I have 1 cardinal that eats like a pic and the other dosnt eat at all. My stary bleny is picking a mysis when I feed the tank but dosnt show much interest in seaweed on the veggie clip. I haven’t started any preventative treatments yet because I want to make sure all the fish are eating. I will be picking up some live black worms today as well as garlic dip for the food to see if that helps.

As far as the DT goes I’m pretty sure I had a Dino outbreak. With that said I did extensive research and went with no water changes heavier feeding of corals and a uv sterilizer and it seems to be working ! There’s less and less everyday and corals look much happier.
Both my shrimp and my sea urchin are fat and happy. My new favorite thing to do is feed my corals with the lrs reef mix and reef roids. My corals love it and the are deff Benifiting from it here are some pics taken yesterday

Quick update tonight. Not much has changed. Based on opinions from awesome ppl on this site I fed live black worms today and all my fish ate ! I will continue to feed black worms and also work in the LRS food that they will be eating once in the DT. I also started prazipro today as a precautionary measure. And will let that run it’s course over the next few weeks. At that point I will re evaluate and make a decision if I want to dose copper just to be safe.

I also dropped my radion intensity from 45% to 35%. And the corals responded great. I thought they where happy b4 but with the lower light they seem so much more happy and fuller even the sps. I will keep it at 35% and see how it goes

That is awesome that all your fish are eating, you could try clam on the half shell, I give that to my fish as a treat, for a varied diet. They go crazy for it.
