I started in March with a Biocube 16 gallon AIO. I found myself already wanting a bigger tank. I was looking at a Fiji 32. I didn’t want to spend that much. Than I got on Facebook at the beginning of last week and found this tank, 70 gallon flat back hex mad out of acrylic. Priced at 400! Including a 20 gal long sump and all the fixings! I couldn’t pass it up. So now begins the journey of cleaning it, adding a internal overflow (eshopps eclipse medium), building a new stand base, and getting it all in the tank! The tank also came with the corals the guy had and a mini maxi nem. Currently all the coral is sitting in a 10 gallon tank with heat and flow. Today I plan on building the stand. And getting the tank up and running. I already installed the eshopps over flow. I still need to remove some coraline algae that’s stuck to the acrylic. Soak all power heads and get them clean! Along with the pump. I’ll have to replumb the over flow.

here are a few pics. The first one are from the guy I bought it from and then the tank at my place.

Interesting fact the top is sealed on.

Ok so got it plumed for the most part. Need to pick up one more union. Glue on the last two unions the test for leaks. That will be tonight! If it all seems to hold water, no plumbing leThe fun begins!

I’ll have to disassemble my tank. Put all live stock and corals in buckets get all my sand out of my current tank and throw it in the new one. Along with some extra sand I have. Then it’s Rock time! I need to scrub some of the rocks I have and start putting them in the new set up.. I’m not sure how this will look because I have corals attached to things but I’m sure it will work itself out!

stay tuned for pictures!

I believe with the rocks I kept wet plus my rocks in my dt this should be enough to avoid a cycle. I will though be adding microbacter7 for at least the week following set up.

Oh yeah and I ordered 10lbs of KPAquatics aquatics live rock!

I noticed that my sump tank should have plenty of room for both a skimmer and a fuge I just need to move one divider over and add a new one!

I have to pull out one of those rocks and break off the side with the zoas. It’s the Boulder in there! I placed multiple rocks in my sump. I have a very large rock in the sump ( I put a light over it) that has GSP. I’m got to chisel that off as well and take it all to the LFS along with a large brown leather and a few other corals. They really are just blah looking corals. I think I’ll keep the super large flat piece the mini maxi is on. I just need to pull it out and scrub it. I’ll do it under water since the nem won’t move. Today I’m going to try and get the aquascape looking more like an aquascape and not just things thrown in there! I need to pick up another bag of sand as well.

What kind of rock is that ledge on the right side? It looks like a perfect place to grow out zoas or GSP and peel off for fragging! I really like all the arches and open swim space.
A flat Boulder! It has some larger holes in it. It came with a mini maxi attached to it and my bw bta made it her home as well! I have a chunk of GSP attached to the branching rock. I have one more piece of branch I think I may glue some zoas to.

Ok so!! I placed an order for a Flame fin tang, and a yellow wrasse, along with my black and white clown through Quarantined Fish. Now time to wait! My clown was actually going to be ready in 11 days but now due to me upgrading my tank and ordering two more fish I guess it’ll be next month! I can’t wait! This is me learning patience.

EDIT:

My fish will Be here next week. Talked to Mike at QT Fish and he says he has them already!

Everything seems much happier with the new lights. And I found another ai prime and will be getting it (well paying for it)end of the week so by week after I’ll have 3 ai primes over my tank which I believe will be perfect for the tank.

here are some of my zoas just cuz
