Time to give my little satellite tank some love.. still undecided exactly what I’ll use it for, I originally thought about using it as refugium but as of now my nutrients are so low I’m following @najer ‘s lead and converting it into a crap tank ;) Added a par 38 bulb for some better lighting and so far I have added a rock covered in paly’s from my nano, Kenya trees, pulsating Xenia and a hand full of misbehaving hermits..

I have went through a half dozen thermometers and temp controllers over the last couple years, every one of them has failed because of prob issues so I sealed the prob for new thermometer in a old test tube to prevent water from touching it which should hopefully give me years of reliable use.

Great idea. I've been looking for something just like this to keep the temp probes of my reef-pi from going bad.

I had completely forgot I used this method on my original reef tank back in the 80’s.. purchased a cheap home use indoor/outdoor thermometer and sealed the prob, it lasted for 13 years until I had to take down the tank.

My favorite view of tank, this is the angle as you see it when you enter the room and I planned the aquascape with this in mind. Picture taken this morning before all the lights where on.

How about a really retro picture ;) this is the tank that started my salt water addiction approximately 35 years ago.. air driven under gravel filter, in tank air stone, no live rock or specialty lighting.

Fresh off the truck.. 2nd OW-25 for my tank :) The single unit has actually been doing a great job but I’m stoked to get this one in the tank and synced up with the first.

lol.. yes they have :) That skimmer farm was just temporary while I was experimenting with different filtration methods, there are actually 2 more you cannot see ;) The tall one was a commercial unit I was just using as a ozone reactor, I didn’t drive it hard enough to produce skimate.. the PVC one in foreground was a home brewed venturi driven skimmer that preform beautifully, foam would rise up the long acrylic tube and out the top through a 45 deg elbow and drain out into a collection chamber via a 3/4” hose.. Mrs Retro wasn’t happy with the mess so ultimately all that stuff went away and I ended up with a small in sump skimmer. Thanks for stopping by my build thread!

Very nice. :)

Thanks Simon.. Maybe in a few years it will look as good as yours :) I’m eyeing some SPS but will give the tank a few more months to mature and stabilize first.

Gotto keep Mrs. Retro happy.;)

Ain’t that the truth :D She say’s she feels like she’s living on a farm.. lol. I have a reef tank in the living room, a reef tank in our dining room, an aquatic frog tank in the kitchen, my gecko enclosure is in the den and until recently had a pico reef in our bedroom ;Hilarious We have been together 35 years and she knew what she was getting into from the start.. fortunately for me she grew up with marine tanks in her house so she kinda thinks it’s normal.

Thank you, your tank is beautiful, I want whatever is front left by the way, it is where you are at now, I love watching different tanks run in different ways evolve, I do still change things, just not very often! ;)
