Hello
I have a first generation bengal kitten, and last night she pooped in my sump. The water got a little nasty and a very small ammonia spike. Everything is doing fine, some corals seem to be doing better.
Anything else to worry about? She eats a diet of raw meat. I am blocking off the sump so this can not happen again. I figure its not much different than a giant fish pooping. Tank is about 300 gallons total vol.
I was not able to remove the poop or do a water change. She also pooped in the water change container (full).
This system has a huge UV sterilizer on it. Water cleared up very quickly.

Its the initial ammonia spike that might bother fish, but that will subside. Ammonia, contrary to urban myth doesn't bother corals. If you have soft corals they will appreciate the nutrients :)

Nitrate will spike after a few days...water change...blah blah blah.

So nasty man. I couldn't figure out what it was. I thought it was Hydrogen Sulfide, smelled so bad. Disgusting, I even tasted the water before realizing what it was. Ugh im disgusted

lol why would you taste your tank water in the first place?
What you did was probably up there with drinking skimmate.
I realize this. I am not sure why I did it, I didn't know what was going on. She likes to poop in water. I have to imagine she has been urinating in there as well.

yeah time to cover up the sump for sure. Pooping and peeing. Next would be vomit and hair balls. Yuck.

Hey, I don't mean to sidetrack your thread but what kind of raw diet do you feed your kitten? Just out of curiosity :)
No problem! Asian Leopards need a balanced raw diet to remain healthy, and fully domesticated cats will also benefit from this.
The best thing to do is to grind raw chicken as well as bone, but I do not grind the bone as I don't have a meat grinder. I typically just cut up fresh chicken or beef and feed it to her, generally I try to add some calcium to make up for the bone that is missing.
Here is the culprit

I would caution to say that ammonia is not bad for corals in all cases, given that ammonia can inhibit photosynthesis and its presence can increase the chances of bleaching depending on other factors.

My LPS are loving it, I dosed prime about an hour ago, they've snacked on enough cat poop.

Oh great… another R2R thread filled with cat lovers. @CMMorgan, you and I might have to move to that other forum
I am not a cat lover.. I have one domestic cat and one wild one. I do enjoy the animals, as I like most animals. Except small dogs (chihuahua etc), they are the stupidest animals on earth. Simply sharing what I went thru last night.
God Forbid someone likes reef tanks and Cats!

Hahah! I have a F1, F3 and a SBT bengal. I feed homemade raw as well. They actually seem to do fine on canned but making my own raw is cheaper. I don’t grind the bones either and let them chew them up. It’s scary at first but they do just fine!

I can’t believe you tasted it… ;Nailbiting

Can’t say mine have ever tried to poop or pee in water but I know this can be common with the early generations. They will definitely go swimming if the top is off and try to catch a fresh fish!! Swinging from the lights is another favorite past time too!

These are my brats

Thanks! Yours too! Mine is my first f1 too although the f3 has some quirks as well. My F1 is under a year yet.

If you don’t have a wheel… mine really seem to love it to burn off energy!

I have been looking into those. Good to see they work well! Wow, they are pricey though, everything is expensive with these guys!
I may well get one as she is very active.

Ya they are super expensive!! I got the Ziggydoo brand and love it. It is very sturdy. The one fast cat one just looked too cheaply made. My bad kitties claw the padding on it but it will still last forever and they sell new pads or I bet I can find something comparable to re-cover it as needed.

When they get up to a full run at scary speeds it is a bit loud so don't put it near where you sleep as they love to run at night too. My girl was getting a bit chunky but has trimmed down since getting the wheel as she loves to run on it a few times a day. Makes me feel like a lazy bum.

I have this mental image of a bengal cat carefully balancing and straining on the rim as it drops a deuce into your tank. Time for a motion-detection camera to catch the furry culprits in the act?
NO! I have sealed off the sump, I don't think an ant could get in, but that bengal will find a way
