I wasn't sure where to post this in the forum so I hope someone can help me ID this hitchhiker. While working in my tank tonight I discovered two passengers on the back end of my Conch's shell. Can anyone tell me what they are? I picked up the conch to investigate and found that the area where the passengers are is rock hard to the touch. When they emerge, its like a plate that lifts up and closes when they disappear. I don't want any unidentified/harmful creatures in my new reef! Thank you in advance....

The pics are visible. Is the hitchhiker supposed to be the black object that looks like a snake'a tongue? Wish I could be more helpful

Could it be a feather duster worm? Do long feathery looking things come out of it when the flap opens? I know a few of the snails in my tank had feather dusters on them when I got them, but they didn't survive long.

I'm gonna guess a slipper snail or similar commensal critter

I've just never seen one that stuck that fork thing in and out. Unless that's just an illusion.

I haven't either and I don't think it is an illusion. But that is my best starting place for the OP. I've honestly never seen anything with that kind of a "tounge" other than reptiles lols. If it even is that type of body part..

Whatever they are it's probably best to get them out unless they are part of the snail, but can't really tell.

I actually wouldn't be alarmed at this point. They just totally look and sound like slipper limpets until you say they lift up to stick that black thing out and then the black thing itself is a mystery. Even the convoluted shape on the one to the left matches a genus of slipper limpet. I just don't get that black thing.

Can you try for a couple more pictures? Sometimes the right angle can lead one in a different direction.
