My Coral Beauty is a JERK

The coral beauty was one of my first fish in my 120gal., but now he chases every new fish i get then he calms down a bit but every once in awhile will rush a couple particulars in the tank, my PJs, my phantom clowns etc.

Today i bought a Melanarus Wrasse and he will not calm down, and is being very aggressive even though the Wrasse is much larger.

should i call it quits and get rid of my oldest tank child the Coral Beauty or do you think it will subside? The Wrasse has only been in there for an hour maybe two, but stressing me out!

If you can catch him (?), I'd put him an a sperate bad-boy tank for a week, and maybe even rearrange some rocks before trying him again. The most harm to come after re-introduction is that you are back to where you are now.

Try introducing new fish at lights out after dinner. It seems to work for me.

Dwarf angels are notorious for being buttheads. May be time to rehome it.

That fish probably should have went in last. Do you have a fuge you can put it in until you add the rest of your fish?

he has calmed down finally. At least giving Jerry Garcia - the wrasse his space. I may get lucky….knock on wood. I am going to see how tomorrow goes.

i do have a 30gal low if things get out of hand. Just hat to do it but willing to try.

Not the fish's fault it's been trapped in a glass box that's miniscule compared to its territory in the wild, then unknown food competitors show up that are probably going to eat what little food gets dropped in very day.

That being said, get rid of it, preferably to a bigger tank. I've had to do it several times. Bonded clowns, bonded long nose hawks, damsel. Time outs have never worked for me. Fish seem to have a longer memory than what people give them credit for.

Welllllll, woke up and my Wrasse and diamond goby are MIA!! Top is secure, they aren't in the overflows or sump. I do have a tone of rock so hoping they are in hiding but haven't seen them since late last night. Didnt even come out for food. Best case, they are hiding but worst case they found a way out and my dog ate them orrrrr my sebae nem that hides in the rocks ate them (doubtful) but they we large fish. Hopefully when i get home they are out again.

Both like to bury in the sand. That would be my guess if you are sure they didn't jump out. Maybe leave the lights off for a day to allow them to get comfortable. Dwarf angels are beasts. Maybe find another fish that can match his aggressiveness and maybe the two of them will forget about the others in the tank. My bi-color gets along well with the melaurus and yellow wrasses. Occassionally he will nip at the convict or sailfin tang, but they snap right back.

Yep, you were right. Just went home and both are out and happy!! Worrying was for nothing….this time!

we are a few fish away from getting one or two “showcase” fish, so will def have to find a fish or two that will put him in his place.

I have a large Starki damsel that got like that w new additions but she calmed down in a day. No way getting her out of the reef short of isolation and taking half the reef down. Good luck.

yep introduced cb with a dusky wrasse and a spotted puffer already had a domino damsel in it. added a juvenile tang later temporarily. was going to move it to a 75 in a couple months. after few weeks my wrasse showed up mauled to death then the cb started showing noticeable aggression towards the damsel put egg crate in. two days later it went from no aggression shown towards tang no fin damage or anything. to completely killing it. damsel died a few days after in segregation. it just couldnt calm down and breath. it killed three fish amounting ta 200 dollars in damages. it wasnt nipping at the puffer, but was pushing it around especially. when it slept itd push it off the rock it was wedged on into the sand. so now it separated with the egg crate and i dont know what to do

Mine (CB) is now stressing a new pair of Bartletts Anthias under the rocks.…

The first week was fine they were out and about…but now this.

It rages up and down all corners of the tank like a caged lion…calling it high strung is extremely understated!

I’ll need to rehome it…
but I’ll need blessings catching it first!

I really lucked out with mine 15 years back. He was mellow. I'll end up with another with my next build. Hopefully, it'll be just as cool.

Mine has been great as well. I kept it in a 30g cube for maybe a year with a haddoni and a clarkii and it was fine. I tried it in another tank and my two spot bristletooth said heck no so back to the cube. It's now in a large community tank with a bunch of fish including a flame angel and all is great. I think a lot of mature rock to keep fish like the CB occupied really helps. Many times I can't even find the CB and flame angle because they're busy in the rocks hunting. There's nothing like a tank with rocks growing all kinds of stuff for fish to hunt and graze on along with plenty of space to curb aggression IMO

Is it actively harassing the Bartlett's or is it just Anthias doing Anthias things. Anthias tend to spook a LOT, they may just be acclimating some more. I'd wait it out a bit if the Anthias are at least eating. I used to have a triplet of Lyretail that would do that with any newcomer in my 120g, they would go skittish for a few weeks then back to the usual business.

I don’t ever see the coral beauty actively harassing the Anthias pair.

The pair of Bartletts Anthias are the newcomers.
They swam in the open water and never hid for the first week,
but now the hiding has started

But the Anthias are eating.

Perhaps you’re correct and they are just being Anthias… I sure hope that’s the case
