Food freezing on my stoop.

Hey fellow reefers,

To save money, I made my own reef food. The ingredients are based on multiple recipes I found searching the forums and LRS’s ingredient list. I couldn’t find a good source of fresh fish eggs, so they are not included. Tobiko and masago for sushi is processed with colorings, corn syrup, and rice wine. I chose not to use these. Most ingredients are from Asian markets.

Ingredients:

Ocean white fish 2lb. $8
Bay scallops. 3.5lb. $23.6
Whole squid. 3.2lb. $16.9
Nori. 1 pkg. $10
Purple seaweed 1 pkg. $5
Octopus. 2lb. $1o
Whole krill. 1lb. $5
Frozen oysters. 1lb. $8.5
Shrimp. 2.5lb. $21
Broccoli florets. 2 heads. $6
Live clams 5lb. $25
Hikari blood worms 1lb. $15
Live black worms. 1/2lb. $30
Freeze dried mysis. 1/8lb. $11
Selcon. 2 sm bottle $30
Reef chili. 1 bottle. $21
ReefRoids. 1 bottle. $15
TDO Chromoboost. 3oz. $11
Spirulina powder. 1oz. $3
Astaxanthin. 1oz. $7.5
Brightwell MaxAmino 250ml. $8

Total cost $249.5 which works out to 40 x 8oz flats. $6.24 per flat. LRS $24 / 8 oz

Method: cut all meat and veggies into 2 in cubes, and while still frozen, put thru a meat grinder. Mix in all other ingredients and vacuum seal in bags.

The fish love it. It doesn’t cloud the water as well .
