Do you know how MANY different mh bukbs have come and gone??

How many different reflectors are history?

Every spectrum is a change .

How many ballasts no longer exist?

:)

Now how about the new ceramic metal halides..

BTW nobody " needs" to upgrade every year.
I don't know what is ceramic bulbs

The basic technology of MH didn't changed for over a decade, that's for sure

I feel like I’m watching a late night infomercial between yanir34 and grandis. If I order MH in the next 30mins, do I get a free ballast or something?
haha very funny ...you keep spending thousands of dollars on fancy fixtures....and we keep growing corals ×4 faster then you

Hey hey relax. There are plenty of ways to grow coral and to each their own. I am not criticizing MH, just the tone of these notes that try to push the ‘MH is better than world peace‘ message. I don‘t like hearing that from LED or T5 advocates either (which I use). I treat reef lighting like religion, practice what you want but spare the sermons why yours is better than mine. Just enjoy and happy reefing! The world all benefits from successful coral propagation.

Glad you're happy with the swap, OP. Those frags are looking happy. Very hard to mimic that MH shimmer, it brings the whole tank to life with a natural look.

Glad you like your halides. They are excellent light sources for reef systems. I ran them for years and will never get rid of my ballasts, fixtures, and bulbs. I have many.
Keep posting your success.
That said l am 100% leds now and happy with the results.
Lights are just one part of the puzzle and you will never go wrong with halides, imo.

Guys , my main purpose wasn't to shame about LED users.
I have used them for long years , including AI hydra, echo tech radions , giessmann with t5 and so on.
LED's can grow corals , with good results!
however, compared to MH in terms of PAR ,spread and shimmer like I said....MH wins , for my personal opinion.
if anyone got effended from me , I'm apologize!
happy reefing everyone !

You cant start a halide thread without people pushing thier, mine is better than yours agenda.
Halides on large systems win but leds also work if properly setup, imo.
Its nice to see someone who has ran them all and prefers halides. Cant go wrong with that approach.
Keep the pics comming!

I don't know what is ceramic bulbs
Ceramic metal halide, more efficient, cooler, longer life.. 315w = 400w
Unfortunately no "reef centric" bulbs.
The ceramic tube is an advantage in comparison to earlier fused quartz. During operation, at high temperature and radiant flux, metal ions tend to penetrate the silica, depleting the inside of the tube. Alumina is not prone to this effect.

CMH lights have a long life of up to 24,000 hours
Requires a new ballast design (another change).

What type of ballast can operate that type off bulb ?
