This anemone has been healthy but needed to be fed frequently to regain full health after purchase. I had to squirt large pellet fish food sized pieces of salmon near its mouth for several months, gradually increasing size to chunks about 5mm by 3mm. It also loves Piscine Energetics Mysis shrimp. The HC graduated to bay scallops cut in half and now she loves popcorn shrimp. Tentacles are 1.0 to nearly 2 inches in length and its diameter is over 12 inches. I upgraded tanks and due to this stress, it spawned 2 nights in a row with many many eggs. This really drained it’s energy. I then fed her a lot and now it’s fully recovered. It’s in a 4-5 inch sand bed area. I had a similar anemone for about 6 years before I gave away when moving. IME, contrary to common belief, they prefer wedged in a DSB against a rock and medium current and bright but not super bright light. The rock should be big enough to let it rest itself partially onto the rock when open. My previous HC never moved and this one hasn’t since it settled here about 2 months ago.

Absolutely stunning anemone! I have a small 5" one that I am currently growing out, came in lightly bleached so it hasn't grown much. I hadn't thought to feed it, but I usually use salmon when I feed my other nems so I'll probably do the same as you did here. It's crazy how different the healthy ones look compared to bleached ones!

Thanks! I squirted small pieces near its mouth. At first it took a long time to eat and only ate one small piece or 2. Now it engulfs popcorn shrimp or medium shrimp with shell removed and cut in half lengthwise. I love these anemones. My A. ocellaris used to stay in my first one.

It keeps getting bigger. I bought a H. Malu 2-3 weeks ago. It bleached from shipping but eats and is coloring back up. In the video you can see the difference between the two. When it colors up I will do a thread with both of them to help clear some of the confusion everyone has with identifying them.

Here is mine. It is in back corner attached on glass with only a small branch rock in front of it. It is in a bare-bottom tank. Doing well for 5 years now being tended by my pair of latezonatus clowns. Also showing my previous purple one that died when I upgraded to bigger aquarium.
