I set up a 24g aquapod (old school) with some things I had laying around while I troubleshoot my 100g. Started with dry rock and crushed coral an Orphek DIF50 pendant light that I mounted through the ceiling into the attic for a cleaner look than having a bulky L bracket on the wall. I still need to work on a top for it but for now I have some eggcrate sitting on top. I put a Modified tunze in for flow and an Aqua Medic DC runner 1.1 return pump. I originally started this tank to house some pesky chromis that decided to attack a yellow tang and clownfish and killed them both. They ended up running one of their chromis out of their group so I added the "runt" to the 24g with a captive bred male mandarin I got from algaebarn and 1 large turbo snail.
Tank was setup May 21st, I had one piece of rock "cooking" in my 100g long enough to start getting coraline then added it to this 28g. I have added a few coral that I got before the coronavirus hit and unfortunately havent been able to get more. It's been a while since I've been happy with a tank of mine but this one is shaping up to be one I can be proud of. eventually I hope to get more coral as I save up but I'm just happy my mandarin and chromis have a safe place for them to wander and live without getting beat up. Funny how $6 fish kill a $45 fish, isnt nature fun, but that's the name of the game. Thank you guys for visiting my new build, I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy!

I also made a "rough draft" feeder for my fish so I dont have to turn off any flow to not lose any food in the overflow. I'll make a better one later but thought I'd share it with the tank thread.

Hello

Sorry about the bully fish. Glad the new set up is working out though and the mandarin is doing well. I like hanging lights since it is a cleaner look

keep us posted

I actually decided to go another route. I got rid of the chromis and bought a black snowflake I'm hoping to pair with a lightning maroon clown I'm picking up tomorrow. Going to be a heck of a battle but just in case I put the mandarin back in my 100g and will do the same with the snowflake if things dont go well.

Got the lightning maroon clownfish today with an anemone, killer deal I couldnt pass up though i still feel a little nuts. I fell asleep and woke up to the snowflake out of the breeder box in the tank with this monster after I introduced them together. Thankfully everything was okay but I dont want them together without my supervision for obvious reasons. The maroon was very protective of its anemone so that may become a problem trying to get them paired, I might have to remove the nem while I slowly introduce them together.

I also got my aqua medic plankton reactor running again seeded with phyto thats well over a year old that's been sitting in the refrigerator. This has been going for roughly 8 days.

Tank is still doing well, harvested a 2-liter bottle of phyto from my reactor thus far and got it going again for another round.

NIce

I like this reactor format. My last build unused 1 gallon cheese puff ball containers, but like the look of this better. I can’t find much info on them though so I’m considering building my own- what is the s dimensions of the tube, and capacity? Thinking I’ll do a 4” diameter, 36” long tube for 2 gallon capacity

thanks for any info
