Convince me im wrong, small 20g AOI's are novice bait traps to get them into the hobby.

I feel like if i didnt have 200g+ i would be done already with the hobby
You're wrong.

A "bait trap" would be to benefit the Reef gear suppliers, correct?

As we know, small tanks have been around forever.

We also know they are harder to maintain. If "big reef business" wanted long time customers spending long time money, they wouldn't bait with a small system that will inevitably wash a bunch of people out of the hobby within a year, effectively closing their pocketbook..

20g aoi's are a response to a need.. They fill a role. Good at some things, masters of nothing.

It all started with a 10g for me. Moved to 30g, to 55g, to 75g, to 320g, down to 120g, to 55g, to 40b, to 14g now I'm at 90g and happy :)

My first was 12g, I cant imagine trying to keep coral in that. or balance nitrate and phos to not have dinos.

moved to 90

now 220-250

I respect that logic, but I see the gateway drug effect, and always see hundreds of small aois listed on marketplace for tank tear downs etc.

there is profit in it for sure. need? none of us need to have a tank :) though that could be a whole nother conversation lol

For me, my success has been using ocean live rock. Never had dinos in any tank that I setup with live rock.

I haven't had dino issues in a system w live rock, Until this one, which is the first system I have ever used freshly cycled, Marco rock in.

I've got probably 60 lbs Marco to ~150lbs various, long cycled and ocean direct rock.

My sand bed is a nasty place to be currently.

I think Petco has it right selling the 60 cube style tanks. too bad they're not plumbed... Its a really nice form factor.
my friend works there, picked up a 60 gallon cube he grabbed that he considers replacing a panel in and making it his first reef.

I added 150 lbs of various sand, to a hundred pounds of previously used sand.

New sand is always the worst for getting the nasties.
