So, hehe, when I pulled out this fake nem, I thought nothing off it.

I just realized there are a TONNN of amphipods on it! (Now dried and dead, which I’m thankful for)

All those white spots you see, are dead ones. They absolutely COVER the whole thing.
Why are you thankful those amphiopods are good CUC and you just murdered living creatures

Yup! Setting it up now. Got the filter and heater while I was there.

I plan to ‘instant’ cycle the QT tank with media from the 29g.

In hindsight, I should have setup the QT tank BEFORE I got the fish, but, oops.

—-

Can a QT tank be bare bottom? If not, that’s ok. I figured with a dottyback it may prefer sand?
Bare bottom is preferred

If sand sleeping fish needs qt you add a container with sand in one corner for fish to sleep in

Also make sure you have something for fish to hide in

Like a piece of pvc

Uh, thought they are pests… ;Panda

Also thought they ate coral?
Have you tried feeding them mysis or do they scavenge for fish food when you feed?
If so. Without a natural predator in that tank they could become a problem.
Depends on what you consider a pest as well. Mine get as big as small krill and molt everywhere. To me that's pesty enough.

Well… let’s just say when I shine my flashlight in the tank at night, they are covering the rocks.

But, this dottyback supposedly eats these things. That’s not why I got him though.

Without something to eat them they can become pest like

Mine crawled at night prior to swapping tanks.
I didn’t mind they tend to eat left over food and clean my rocks

Understood what im asking is do they scavenge and eat meaty foods when you feed your fish. That will help determine whether they are carnivorous or not. Could have possibly helped save you a headache here with a fish that will potentially turn into a monster.
Not all amphipods are bad. But when they are they are pretty bad lol
