That’s it, I’m not QTing my poor little dottyback for a whole month. Makes absolutely no sense to me.

He is so stressed out on that tank. Diseases often occur when the fish is stressed out.

He is perfectly fine - no signs of any common illnesses.

I MIGHT leave him in there for the rest of the week, but that’s a MIGHT.

Did you give him something to hide in?

I agree with your decision.

I will now duck and cover.

Yes, I did. A fake rock structure, the fake nem/torch, and a big pvc elbow piece.

Now if he had ich it velvet when I got him? You betcha I would QT! But he doesn’t, he’s perfectly fine.

In fact, with a tank that small, water parameters tend to swing without the slightest warning.

Swinging parameters = sick fish

Ummm do what ya want man.

And you wouldn’t know if the fish is sick
This is why LFS keep copper in the system to keep fish from appearing sick

I didn’t QT my fish
But most of my fish came from someone who DID fully qt and treat them.
The exception in my tank would be my mandarins

All of us that have been doing this a while have losts hundreds of dollars to impatience and rash decisions.

Ride in your car... don't wear your seat belt. Most of the time you will be fine. Until that one driver you didn't see coming runs into you and you go flying through the windshield....

Same concept. Sure you may be fine this time... but eventually you will lose fish for being impatient... id rather lose 1 fish at $30 than a full tank of hundreds of dollars...

What parameters would make a fish sick other than ammonia?

Not directed at anyone in particular…
Just because a fish isn’t showing signs or symptoms of parasites or disease doesn’t mean they don’t have it. False security possibly with that kind of thinking.
That being said, I qt nothing and never will. I’ve had fish come down with ich after they were in my tank for awhile.
no other fish had an outbreak. I treated nothing for it. One recovered. Two (a pair added together) didn’t.
Pick a way to do things and hold to it.
If you start qt on the advise of someone you trust than follow through.
No whining later if you have problems and were too impatient to stick with the original plan.

Man did I step in the hornets nest… my bad. I see this group feels very, er, strongly about quarantining their new, stressed out fish for a month.
Dude you need to re-evaluate everything you’ve read here.

And re-evaluate how you talk to people

Yes QT is stressful
Some of us do it some of us don’t

At the end of the day we all feel that YOU should do what YOU think is best for YOUR fish and YOUR tank.

Don’t sweat it. You’ll learn that some things in life are best left unsaid. Another thing that’s pretty useful in life is to get used to making your own decisions. Social media, including forums, have promoted the endorphin rush of the “like” which takes people away from their own beliefs to be‘accepted’.
it isn’t necessary to be accepted.
do your research and trust your own instincts and beliefs and then act.
Here endeth the sermon according to Nick. Lol

I think people should do what they feel is the right thing.

But don’t ask for advise if your going to ignore the advise given.

I started out with QT (again exception is my mandarins) so if I add fish I will probably continue this path

But then I don’t dip corals so there ya go lol
