i have a differing opinion on stretch/reaching zoas.
i have some up high that still extend.
my thought are they extend not because they is to far from the light , but larger polyp head so the stalk is longer to go sideways so they all can get tanned.
just a theory.
not that i have a clue.
My theory was that they stretch to allow little ones to grow and expand under them since the reproduce that way...

@najer, don’t you have one of these?
D262652C-32BD-46F4-AED4-DA9CC0275565.jpeg

I was lucky to get a picture with its dorsal fin fully extended. It was chasing away a clown that was near its cave.

No, three scopas tangs and a convict, my tank is custom built and works out close to the footprint of a 6 x 2, way too small for one.

Stretched as in looking tall, usually means they want more light.
Agree this is the most common opinion and very likely to be true.

If you saw this picture yesterday, this big colony is super stretched out. Does this mean they needs more light? Or do they just grow taller in the back?

bigger heads longer stalks.
ones to the left and to the right of the daisies.
short stalks on the smaller.
and doesn't matter if i have them hi or low.
and low is pretty low in my tank.

I have some way up, and they still stretch. I believe you are correct

It won’t be accurate, but it can at least give you an idea. You just don’t want them at 0. Dinos can take over quick and it has a toxic sting to corals. That’s what the brown strings with clear bubbles are. The bubbles are one way to tell the difference between dinos and cyano. Peroxide kills algae on contact. It’s another good way to clean your rocks if you can take them out of the tank.
Ok, I just tested. Please remember, these are the API, so they won’t be accurate.

Phosphate: 0.25ppm
Nitrate: 0.25ppm that’s a guess, it’s so hard to tell: 2EC4674F-B410-4790-8FFD-9088169B4992.jpeg

Didn’t you just clean the algae out of tank?
How often do you feed?
Can you bring water to lFS and have them test?

0 nitrates brings dinos

(I won’t upload the picture of the 10g Betta tank, just because it’s a hot mess of plants right now ;) Here is the betta though)

This was actually my 29g saltwater tank, when it was still freshwater:

Yes, I did just clean a lot out yesterday. I would take it to my LFS, but they use the API kit as well :/

Edit: I meant to put 0.25ppm, not 0ppm

Not dissing your lfs but if they use API for marine testing I would be wary of results from them.

I just tested calcium as well. (Some asked for it yesterday?)

This is another reason why I hate salifert:

Which do I go after! The end of the black plug like it says in the instructions? Or the liquid level itself?

I went with the end of the plug, just because that’s exactly what it said to do. I came out with this: (410ppm)

Hey James , how many fish do you have and what do you feed and how often?
2x ocelarias clowns
1x sunrise dottyback
1x orange spot diamond goby
6x Hermit crabs
5x snails (1 large turbo snail)

—-

I feed a mixture of frozen (mysis) and dry food (NLS marine pellets), 2x a day.
