Sounds like you need to rig up a float valve or solenoid and float switch to shut it off.

My mini maxis do that for a few days if they are about to spawn. You may end up with some free coral food before it is over with. They typically spawn at night.

I’ve yet to have any issues with the ruby mithrax that came in my KP

I enjoy them quite a bit actually

Hmmm. May not open. If not, just fill with hydrogen peroxide and let sit for a bit. Then rinse with hot water and repeat if needed. It should most of the crud out. If that doesn’t work, soak in some vinegar for a few hours and then rinse well.
