Love the tank! I upgraded to an acrylic peninsula tank May if 2016. Curious what your cleaning habits are for the panels and the products you use.

I’ve gone through more cleaning products than I care to think of, but I’ll mention what works.

The large Flipper works well on my 3/4 inch acrylic. I have to keep an eye on it because once or twice it has caused a scratch, but it’s rare. It’s the best daily cleaning magnet out there.

I’m using a Tiger Shark from Algae Free for heavy duty cleaning but it’s not quite strong enough so I just ordered a Mighty Magnet. That said, it is an excellent magnet. I chose the Mighty Magnet because it comes with a scratch kit as an available option.

I also have a hand scraper and a old credit card for stubborn stuff.

For cleaning the outside, I use Brilliantize and a micro mesh cloth. Does a great job of keeping it clean and removing static.

I also keep a LifeReef scratch removal kit from BRS handy when I do happen to cause harm.

Honestly I’ve decided I really prefer acrylic. It does scratch more easily than glass, but glass also gets scratches. With acrylic, I can do something about them. I find myself buffing one out every two to three months and they’re usually minor so not a big hassle.

Beautiful tank! Is that a povona under your purple stylo? Can you show us a better picture of it? I got a tank I just can't seem to get to take off. I invy everyone in this hobby.

It is. I’ll try and get you a good shot in the morning. My lights just went out for the night.

I’ve had overall success keeping tanks, but don’t let anyone kid you. There’s the less than perfect times too.

Just wait, be patient, keep keeping your nutrients under control and it’ll come right. If everything else is going well and it’s still not working, look for some sort of environmental pollutant. Smoking around the tank, cleaning sprays, etc. your tank can handle a bit of most things but a bit more than a bit can really set you back.

Appreciate the feedback. I own the flipper max for mine but I do hesitate to use the scrub side of the unit. Think I'll give it a solid go if your not finding much issue. Tried to order a mighty mag over the phone with the owner but he kept asking me to call back for multiple different reasons so I gave up.

I did end up with a mag float 530a which I drop a slice of magic eraser in to scrub down with. Works well but it's a pain to turn the corner heh.

I do miss the ability with glass to scrap down with a razor, but the clarity on the acrylic is undeniable.

It’s been a while since I put a build thread together. Rather than provide a master stroke of literary and descriptive wonder, I’m going to be lazy, give some of the goodies, and add as I go along if anyone seems interested. Most of my pics are taken on my iPhone. My wife has a camera and can do a much better job of the picture taking and I’ll get her to provide us some good stuff along the way. For now I take my pics with the halides off and the t5s on and since they’re fairly white my pics tend to be a little green relative to what I see.

Here is my tank:

And here is an older pic showing the stand more clearly:

The current rock and aquascape is fairly new. Less than a year old. Much of the coral is much newer. Some on the other hand go way back.

Here is my purple stylo almost dead in an old tank late December 2013:

And after many ups and downs, today:

I run a Zeovit tank but keep it fairly simple with few additives and lots of food. My light is from a Geissman dual halide fixture and I use the Radion 20k 400w bulbs. It’s lots of light but I like the look.

The whole system comes out to about 210 net gallons with about 180 in the display.

The sump is in a separate room from the tank, I have a BK Mini 180 skimmer in there, and water is circulated with a plain old Eheim. For in tank current I use two SeaSweeps with a Tunze 6095 on one and a 6105 on the other.

Here are some recent pics of things growing in a bit:

There’s some nice frags just coloring up so I’ll update as things begin to get more exciting.

Thanks for looking!

If you get a chance, can you take a picture of the Tunze with the Sea Sweeps? I've never seen one attached and just wanted to get an idea of how it works. I thought the Sea Sweeps were for return plumbing, that's why.

I was a bit confused as to how it all worked when I first found them myself.

Ed at SeaSwirl was a huge help getting me going. I’ve taken some pics to try show my setup.

This is my front side SeaSweep with the 6095 mounted. It just sweeps the Tunze back and forth across a 150 ish degree arc (I think) on one side of the tank.

This is the back side SeaSweep with a 6105 mounted. It sweeps a 150 ish degree arc on the back side of the tank. Each Tunze spends about half its time pointing down the long end of the tank and the 6105 sends a lot of water down-range!

46A06AC6-5BC4-4190-87F0-B0E0F624FBAD.jpeg

This above is the Sea Swirl. It is connected to my return. It does the same thing, but with the flow from the return pump.

I’ve uploaded a short video, complete with Disney background sound effects, that shows the two working together.

I spent years thinking I didn’t want Tunze because they didn’t loook slick. Well, they’re not Vortechs, and the SeaSweeps add to the works but honestly, in some ways they’re less noticeable. For starters the pumps are so reliable I never bother cleaning and they end up more encrusted over than my rock :)

I took some pics this morning mainly of a few of my newer frags getting going.

I really want to thank Adam at @Battlecorals for just being an amazing help and providing exactly the kind of service we all love to get. Not to mention his frags are all healthy, happy, and ready to start growing in spite of my best efforts. Thanks Adam! These are just a few of the frags I got from him recently.

I also need to thank Brett at @CherryCorals who was also just amazing and has provided two lovely corals I’ve ogled continuously in the past. WT Mother if Pearl and RR Red Bull.

Beautiful tank ! !

Questions:
Is that a pink cat's paw(last pic)?

What are the dimensions of your tank?

So I just got mine and I suggest you look at the Mighty Magnet again. My wife’s and my tank both look cleaner than ever and the scratch removal kit makes buffing out a scratch as easy as I’ve ever experienced.

For what it’s worth that’s a well lit room. I had to dial light back quite a bit on the camera setting to get the pictures.

And a quick pic of a mariculture coral I’ve had for a while that is wandering into fairly cool territory. I think there’s some blue coming in as well. Hard to get a picture that captures all the colors.

I’ve had my current light setup for years. I have adjustable ballasts on Radion bulbs that I’ve known for maybe ages will produce different colors if I adjust the power output. For some reason, I never bothered. Until now. I just took a quick FTS, but I love the difference! The first pic is the newer setting.

Hey guys,

I wanted to share some pics of my wife’s seahorse tank. The sand has been in here a while and is tended primarily by cucumbers. We do not vacuum or clean it in any way. I keep noticing this with Zeovit tanks however, the sand stays remarkably clean. I don’t know that that’s any different from other methods, but I wanted to share the data point in terms of maintainance.

There’s no way around it. This sand bed is less work than my bare bottom tank.
