I decided to switch lights. I’ve gone from the Radium 400w halides to the Geissman Megachrome 250w 12500K. I’m going bluer with the t5s when I pick up some bulbs tomorrow, but for now here is a comparison using the same t5 setup.

My initial reaction was to worry about the yellow, but it quickly settled in (the front bulb is two days older and you can see a slightly bluer cast to it).

I really like the contrast on the colors. The Radium is really pretty in the water, but it tends to wash the rock out a bit and cause some corals to fade. I’ll try post a comparison going from the coral plus t5s to the blue plus t5s and a hybrid of its interesting.

Corals look fantastic.

So now that you've had the light for awhile how does it compare?

I actually had to think about that a little. The Radium make the water in the tank look ethereal. It’s a lovely look. The problem is the corals slowly wash out under all that blue and for anything that isn’t reacting to the blue light, the contrast isn’t there.

That makes it sound like it’s close. It’s not. The new light is just nicer all around. I don’t want to pretend there isn’t a lot to miss in the Radium though.

Things are looking terrific and I doubt seriously you've cursed yourself. Obvious skills here for sure.

Thanks. I don’t know about skills so much as just patiently fixating on a problem until it’s gone and knowing there are lots of problems to work through.

I’ve been playing around with setting up the pumps so I get a good top view on occasion. Seems to be working. Few quick shots along with some fts.

Playing with the new phone cam, so here are some pics.

I have no idea what this first coral is called, but I know it’s some named thing and I think it’s pretty cool, so if anyone happens to have a name, please pass it on.

the empty bottom stand looks great, almost as if the tank was floating

Thanks. I’ve always been a little obsessed with trying to make sure the tank itself is as close to lovely as I can get it. I get a little better at it each time but I can still see a long way to go. Some day I’ll have the perfect tank.

Then I’ll invent a new perfect tank!
