My rainbow bta has sat on the same spot since I got it and yesterday I noticed it slowly moving and changing shape. The way it was looking I figured it was going to split. This seemed to be an all day process because when I went to bed last night it was still moving but looked like it was about ready to start splitting. Guess it wanted to find that perfect spot to split. I wake up this morning and have 2 beautiful ones now and the original bta is slowly moving back to its original spot. I was just so happy I had to share! I love anemones and hope to have several in my tank!
I would like to think it split because it was happy. All water params, flow, and lighting have all been consistent. I do feed my bta a small piece of shrimp once a week(fed it a piece day before it split)and it catches whatever my clowns eat. Clowns haven't hosted it yet, but they have been checking it out here and there.
Pics are before it moved, in process of moving, and then after split.

Congrats! Not sure why they split...sometimes it's because they're happy and well fed others because it's a survival mechanism from being stressed. I didn't want mine to split (fed it very lightly) and it didn't for a year, but then I messed up and had a power head cranked up to stir up sand bed and left it on all night...woke up to two anemones. :) Luckily they didn't go roaming so all is well.
