I upgraded my T5 bulbs yesterday using some store credit I had for GSP and chaeto. I added a 10k bulb since they only had 1 ATI Coral Plus bulb and not the two I wanted to replace. So now in my AquaticLife are:
2 ATI Coral Plus (1 new)
1 ATI Blue Plus (new)
1 CoralLife 10k
2 Kessil A360

So far the Mags seem to like it.

It’s been a bad month for my Kessils…in less then a month I’ve lost 3 A360’s (they were all heavily used from a LFS that closed and were free so DEFINITELY not complaining) I’m down to one A360 and a cheap black box until the lights I ordered come in.

I’m a bit tight on cash so I went with getting two 36” Reef Pro light bars from 21LED (made in the USA, so that’s a plus!). Have seen some great reviews so I have high hopes for them. I’m hoping to get some higher or same PAR values for the Mags and the crocea clam. Even with the lower PAR for just a couple days I can see the Mags are not very happy and have loosen their grip on the shelf rock.

I’ll post an update once the new lights arrive and .

I received my 21LED REEF PRO light bars (two) this week. I haven’t tested the PAR yet (need to borrow a PAR meter from my LFS) but the mags seems to be enjoying them. I would have expected them to move if the PAR wasn’t sufficient, but you never know.

Really liking my light bars! The mags are open and spread out much more than with the kessils. They also haven’t moved at all since the light bars were introduced.

The crocea is also more open and is growing nicely. Another plus is my long polyp leather that has been sulking for months is now open!

and finally some close ups of the clowns and the mags.

@Gumbies R Us yeah, it’s been a while, but things are going well, the tank is just waking up so the pics below are not the best. Also, for some reason, every few years as the temperatures rise outside my tank will get a red dino outbreak and kill off a large chunk of my CUC and I’ll have an outbreak of algae (of all types). So for the past two months I’ve been fighting the algae back (the prices for CUC are ridiculous right now!). Yesterday I removed the rubble I had on the bottom since it was an algae magnet so I’ll probably let the GSP take over the bottom again.

I lost my male mandarin in February and was able to get another one and so far they’ve been spawning regularly so that was good news as well!
IMG_6470.jpeg

Magnifica is also doing well. Really hoping to get another one soon. Clowns breed under it every two week like clock work!

maxima is also going well and has great growth and luckily isn’t bothered by the BTAs that’s are grouping around it.

How high off the water do you have your lights? Did you ever get a par meter to test it?

@biecacka i have the lights about 7in from the water just to I can increase par for the mag and maxima clam. The mag is sitting under around ~540 par with the T5 and LED’s all on the maxima is ~ 430 par. I’ll be replacing the T5 bulbs later this summer so I’ll have to see how that changes things.

With the temps rising (over 100F) over past month I had a major Dino outbreak and took forever to get under control. I lost several CUC members so GHA is coming back but so is the rest of the tank.

Just some Labor Day pics! Lost my female mandarin and a new Starry Blenny (it didn’t look well to begin with…) so I’ll be looking for some new ones in the coming months.
Happy Reefing!

What a weekend! I got a call from a friend, and fellow reefer, that if I wanted his Red Sea Reefer 450 (lock, stock, and barrel) and if so he needed it gone the next day! So after scrambling in getting a truck and some additional elbow grease we got it moved! Now the question is, what to use it for and where to put it. For now I think I may do a FOWLR tank for now and let it evolve into an SPS tank.

The 450 is up and running! The tank has been cycling for about 3 weeks. It took about two days to fill with my RODI system.
IMG_7255.jpeg

Plumbing was a beast to deal with since the original return line and emergency overflow were busted or cracked at the joints. I retrofitted some PVC with a heat gun to fit the metric size of RSR tubing and then used PVC to ABS glue to fit the pieces together. So far it’s worked out better than I expected.
IMG_7294.jpeg

I just started to get the first stages of the uglies (diatoms) the other day. I also added some chaeto in the refugium that I added to sump.
