if I had gotten him after my corals started growing it would be a perfect balance

99% sure the polyps just retracted (they can pull themselves in and you’ll just see a purple mat), they’ll come back in a few hours/days.

GPS polyps retract too fast for a star to do any damage or eat them. Give it a few hours/days and they'll pop back out.
