Fantastic build! I might have to consider a closed loop system in the new tank I am planning. Great attention to detail!

Thanks for stopping by!

Taking my time has certainly afforded some benefits in that I can sit down and really hammer out what I want out of the build. I certainly suggest the closed loop if you can manage it, it does have it's drawbacks but it's advantages far outweigh them. Atleast IMO anyway, this is my first true Closed loop system so we shall see how it goes long term :)

Is sumpalicious a word? It is now! I agree 100% that your sump can never be too big. It just allows for a bigger Sump Lord.

Hummm bigger sump lord eh? I never thought of it like that!

And I don't really know what I'm doing with this thing but it's going to be fun!

I might have to pick your brain on how to plumb it when it comes time. I am hoping for sometime this year to get it up and running!

Pick away, you might only find cobwebs ;Bored;)

That hole saw is much too small. Way too easy to cover up any mistakes made. Must...go....bigger.

Lol. With all the attention to detail and planning that you have put into this build already, I am sure there won’t be any problems. Love seeing progress.

Hummm..... I have a 4 1/2" hole saw kicking around here somewhere..... ;Bored

Annnndddd problem number one popped up, I ran out of RODI tubing!;Facepalm

So I've managed to run 4 Lines of RODI tubing from the right side of the room where the actual RODI System will be mounted. All the way to the left side of the room where the sump will be placed. All the lines are run through glued PVC conduit incase in the unlikely event theres a leak somewhere, it will run out the outlets and be easily noticed. All lines are solid runs fished through the PVC which was a world class nightmare but made it this far with no kinks or other issues!

As a side note I ended up re-wiring for 2 20 Amp circuits just for piece of mind and flexibility down the road after some serious thought on previous suggestions.

Wiring and a hole saw? That's a great idea using PVC conduit.

Hole saw was for the conduit :) I didn't have a drill bit quite wide enough so had to go with that

And if you're implying that me, live wires and a hole saw are a bad mix, well, you'd be right. Luckily I paid extra attention when working around them and everything turned out great :)

Are those pictures from the guy making it? And woot! Progress! So exciting to be able to work on the guts of the project. A fishroom right? It has been a while since I read the beginning...

Those are pictures from the builder yes :) I certainly wish I had the toys required to make a project like the sump. MAYBE one day!

You know it really is an exciting time, planning, and digging into the guts of a system is so much fun it's not even work! And yes, it is the beginnings of a fish room :)

I'm attempting to get caught up on some build threads I've been absent from lately and it's really kicking my butt.

Definitely my favorite part of any tank is the set up. I think I love the planning more than the maintaining.

I agree, I think I certainly fall into that camp for sure, which is why in all my planning I have minimal maintenance in mind for just about everything. Plus my desire for relatively easy corals really helps as well :) I don't want to stress too much about numbers or chase my tail around tracking down issue after issue, so I'm going to stick to relatively easy, hardy corals and equipment that doesn't need an insane amount of maintenance to stay functional
