So it begins! I finally have some time to start my new 120 SCA build. I chose the name because that is the reason I started a saltwater aquarium. I can't go snorkeling as often as I would like to because of work and family obligations. Weather conditions don't always cooperate when I do have free time so I wanted to be able to enjoy the ocean and it's amazing creatures any time I wanted to. I currently have a 55 gallon set up and though it has brought me a great deal of pleasure ( and just as much stress), it is time to upgrade! I had always planned to go bigger and the 55 was just a learning tool for me to hone my skills. It still amazes me how much I have learned in the past three years! This hobby allows me to use many skills that I enjoy such as diy, plumbing. carpentry etc... As I get older it also allows me to exercise my brain with all the troubleshooting and problem solving as well! That's always a plus! Enough of my rambling, here's a photo of my current tank.

The build actually started a few weeks ago but I have to mix in home projects time along with aquarium build time. I'll keep adding pics following the build timeline so that the build thread doesn't have too many gaps between updates!! Gotta get the home projects done to keep the wife happy!

Finally getting the skin on! It's definitely starting to look like a stand! This is definitely more time consuming than just buying a stand but I get alot of pleasure building it from scratch and watching it all come together!! Thanks for watching!

First coat of paint to the interior! I used enamel white to give it that nice clean glossy look! It should also make cleaning up any spills easy! Also started trimming out the cabinet! Definitely starting to look like an aquarium stand to me!

Finally got to get more done on the stand! Another coat of paint on the inside as well as a coat of stain/ sealer on the outside!! It's really starting to look like an aquarium stand now!

So I'm working on the doors for the stand. I got them finished and they looked really plain... Trying to figure out how to give them a little character and I remembered that I had seen some wooden pot holders at a local dollar store... Light bulbs came on and I ran out to the store and grabbed a few of them and this is what I came up with!! What do you think??

So I am trying something that my wife suggested. The top part of the stand is a tray that I completely sealed. I installed a bulkhead fitting and a pvc 90 to the side towards the back. . I plan to plumb it into my floor drain and in case of any leaks, apart from catastrophic failure, it will drain into the floor drain instead of flooding the house. What do you think?

So I got a few coats of sealant on the doors and I'm really happy with the results! I'm glad that I went with the fish skeleton door inserts as they really add alot of character to the whole project and gives a sense of originality to the stand!
